Roger & Me (Well, not "me"... the Braves)

The Braves have replaced legendary pitching coach Leo Mazzone with... Roger McDowell?

Roger's done some coaching, but--face it--even when he helped win the chip in '86, we all remember him as "pants on his head guy," or possible "pie in the face guy."

I'd try to cast more doubt, but it's the friggin' Braves. Every time the Braves do, um, anything, they win the division (and then turn into Sisyphus in the playoffs.)

Good luck, Rog. Can't wish you wins on principle, but how about a lot of 1-0 losses?

"pants on the head guy"
For some reason I remember him as hot-foot guy.  Some interview I saw in '84 or '85 featured him and Dykstra explaining in great detail how to assemble the most obnoxious, painful, and surprising hot-foot possible.

It's hard for me to know how to feel about this, because I wish McDowell the best, but the Braves the worst.  I think there's every possibility he will not be a successful pitching coach, and Mazzone's are hard shoes to fill at best.  Maybe we can settle for him achieving happy mediocrity and a strong second place to the Mets.

hotfoot!
At least we know what he's filling Mazzone's shoes with... matchbooks and Zippo fluid.

Hotfoot
Yes. They were featured on the '86 Championship Video providing a detailed how-to on creating the perfect hotfoot. That and the Backman/Dykstra "Wild Boys" montage stand out in my mind.

thanks
for spotting that.  I have to go dig out that video and watch it now.  And Doc Manhattan, thanks for making me spew coffee out my nose... I can't believe I didn't see that one coming.
