Tom Verducci the anti-Buster
Since Buster the Yankee blogger, decided to state that Mets are overspending, and wants to make it sound like they are heading for a big disappointment. I thought I would share with you an intersting arcitle from Tom Verducci. He does a good job of explaining why the Mets can spend this money on Delgado and Wagner, and it is not just because they are a NY team.

Brand equity this way does not lie
chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon put it, "We want to put an exciting product on the field and on the network. Obviously, waiting for the minor league system to produce is not as exciting."
This to me reflects a continued complete lack of understanding of what constitutes brand equity in a sports franchise.
David Wright is an example of a brand asset: he's homegrown, from that "minor league system" Jeffie-poo mentioned. We get to see him as a kid, see him grow up, see him at Cooperstown, name various parts of the stadium after him...
Hired guns give you some splash but do not contribute to the accumulation of lasting brand equity where profits reside.
Ya wonder how these fools ever got enough nickels to rub together to buy this team anyway.
Omar, ignore them. That was your condition on taking the job, as it was Cashen's back when he built brand equity that unfortunately was crushed by chemical dependency.
