Rocker

Former Mets nemesis John Rocker is attempting a comeback with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic league.  He hopes to prove himself worthy of signing with a Major League team by mid-season.

Known best for his insensitive comments about New Yorkers, Rocker was a dominant closer with the Braves before being traded to Cleveland in 2001.  He underwent surgery for a torn rotator cuff and missed the entire 2004 season, and is now with the Ducks.

What I want to know is, given the state of the Mets pen, and provided that Rocker is still able to get the ball up there in the mid to high nineties, what would Mets fans think about getting this guy?

Personally I see this is the best case scenario, and here is why.  The lefty options in the Mets pen are Matthews, Koo, and Heredia.  At some point it will become clear that at least one of these guys is not able to hack it, and what team would not be able to use a flame-throwing lefty with a proven track record under pressure.

The second reason is more psychological:  Rocker always had a pro wrestling mentality, and I thought he made a great heel.  For those who don't know, the heel is wrestling parlance for the guy you love to hate.  And nothing is better than a heel who wins over the crowd to become a good guy.  So I think it would be a great story.

But I'm interested to know what other fans think.  I didn't have a big problem with his comments because I knew he was an idiot.  I was more pissed that he beat us all the time.  I know this is all very hypothetical, but it's food for thought at least.
