Yankees Interested in Cameron

Sid Rosenberg, on WFAN, said that the Mets are looking at Wang and Cano for Cameron and that Cashman has admitted to talking with the Mets about this.

If it is true then Omar is as big of a jack ass as Steve Phillips. What happens to these GMs when they come to the Mets? Do they instantly come down with Alzheimer disease? The Mets system is loaded with rh pitching with the type of stuff that Wang has. Put Cano in the Mets lineup without the outstanding hitters around him and he may be as bad as Matsui. Give Keppinger a chance before you deal for Cano.

The deal makes no sense from a Mets point of view. Cameron has been one of our best hitters. Diaz, except for one stretch, hasn't shown much except that he can hit into DPs. If the Mets make that trade it is a signal that they have thrown in the towel for this season.

The Yanks have nothing to offer that the Mets can use. If Cameron goes to the Yankees it will have to be a three-team deal with Cashman dealing (prob. eating some salary on a veteran) with another team that can give the Mets prospects and/or useful players in return. Cano and Wang are not that good anyway; their trade value is limited at best, and I'd be surprised if they netted more than a bullpen arm or two for Cashman.

I agree

with both of you guys. I am absolutely not convinced about Cano. Whenever I talk to Yankee fans about him I call him Shane Spencer. And doesn't this team have enough starting pitching? Where is Wang going to go, behind Heilman in the pen, or behind Seo at Norfolk?

Just because Sid Rosenberg says they talked about it, doesn't mean it is happening. As for Cashman admitting to talking to the Mets, that could have been a quick phone call to Minya, and nothing more..

I can see it going like this..

Cashman: "Omar, I was thinking I would take Cameron off your hands. What do you think?"

Minya: "And who is George offering us?"

Cashman: "I make the trades here, not George."

Minya: "Ok, whatever, you say."

Cashman: "So what about Cano and Wang?"

Minya: "Ha!" <Click>
