Met Changes
The Associated Press reports the following Mets Transactions:
"The slumping Mets released struggling reliever Mike DeJean on Monday and put second baseman Kaz Matsui on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised knee."
"The Mets also activated left-handed reliever Dae-Sung Koo from the DL and will call up outfielder Gerald Williams from Triple-A Norfolk before Tuesday night's game in Philadelphia."
"Matsui was injured while turning a game-ending double play in Oakland last Thursday, when Jason Kendall slid hard into his knee. An MRI on Monday showed a very deep bruise."
"Right fielder Mike Cameron had fluid drained from his ailing left quadriceps and could be available Tuesday night. He hasn't played since June 12."
"Notes: Triple-A INF Jeff Keppinger has a fractured left knee after he was taken out on a slide June 15, but he is not necessarily out for the rest of the season, the Mets said."
The Mets have had a host of pitchers fail this year, i.e. Ishii, Aybay, DeJean, etc. A friend of mine who is an Oriole fan wanted to know why the greatest pitching coach in the history of the game, at least in his own mind, Rick Peterson, couldn't turn these guys around? Maybe someone who has a high regard for Peterson will let me and my friend know why Peterson couldn't do something with these guys. They all have good stuff so what's the problem here.
If the Mets would have checked the extent of Matsui's injury earlier they could have replaced him on the roster Because they waited Willie had to play short handed in Seattle.
Keppinger was playing well enough to have been brought up earlier. Now he will probably be lost for the season and he is no longer trade bait.
Do you really thing Gerald Williams is going to make a difference?
Even with Omar this is a poorly run organization. I really thought this year would be better and maybe over time it will. But right now it is not.

It's one year
"Look at what Omar did in Montreal"
Second, Omar screwed that team badly when he was its GM. He scotched the entire Montreal farm system for a half-season of Bartolo Colon (who brought nothing back in return) and a month of Cliff Floyd (whom he then inexplicably turned around and dealt again for virtually nothing). Fine, he was under financial pressure and time pressure, and maybe he honestly believed that the team was going to be contracted so he was justified in going all-out. But you can't point to that as good long-term decision-making. Give me a break.
Definitely true

Koo
At least he's not Dejean.
Snarlin' Marlon
Minaya's trades
Best:
-Scott Stuart for Ryan Church and Maicer Izturis (whom he promptly got rid of)
-Randy Choate for John Patterson.
-J. Vasquez for Nick Johnson
These trades were good ones.
Worst:
-Ahh, here you have a stinker--Lee Stevens, Brandon Phillips, Cliff Lee, and Grady Sizemore to Cle. for B. Colon (then later traded) and Tim Drew. Ugh!
-C. Floyd for S. Son and S. Kim.
He also got rid of Jason Bay (so did the Mets for that matter), Geoff Blum, Chris Young and I'm sure a number of others.

This is how it works
There are a lot of people you have to convice giving up on someone is necessary: first of all, yourself, because you're firing someone (sure, you're firing a millionaire, but still). Then there's the owners, the fans (via the press and blogs), the other players on the team, and players of the future that are looking at how you treat other guys.
So I don't so much mind trading a game here and there to develop enough momentum and justification to get rid of the dead wood. No one's crying outside of the DeJean family today.
