Piazza to Phillies?

There is an article on espn.com today saying that the Phillies are interesting in signing Mikey and have had preliminary discussions with his agents.      http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2304496

While I love Mike and what he did for the Mets during his tenure in New York, and I want only the best for him because he is a great player and a great guy, it would hurt me to see him in a Phillies uniform playing against the Mets 20 times a year.  Also, I don't think it's the right situation for him because I think he can be a very productive DH in the AL for several years down the road (even though he still wants to catch).  His body will hold up longer and he will be able to produce at a pretty high level for at least 3-4 more years. The article also mentioned the possibility of Piazza going to the Yankees, which might hurt even more than the Phils.

I want all the best for Piazza for the rest of his career, but I would prefer to see him thrive in the AL than continue to struggle in the NL (not to mention, potentially hurt the Mets 20 times a year). I'm pretty sure I'm not alone here. Thoughts?

makes some sense
he is from that area, and Liberthal is older and they probably could split time, an AL team probably would be better(please not Skankees though)
its a ground ball...trickling... its a fair ball, its by Buckner, rounding third Knight, the Mets will win the ballgame, the Mets win

makes no sense
I have to say I don't see how it makes any sense for Piazza to go to an NL team at this point in his career.  He needs to be at least a part-time DH just to stay off the bench, since I don't see "backup catcher" as an attractive role for him.  The free-agent catching market has turned very soft since the Mets putatively filled their imaginary hole, and even Bengie Molina is making not-too-convincing noises about sitting out next year.  Piazza ought to sign with the Angels, Twins, (dare I say it?) Yankees or whomever else and accept a DH/catcher role; it can't be about the money for him at this point, so it should be about hitting his way into the best career numbers he can put up before retiring.

MLB.com
says that 7 teams are interested in him.

I don't really care where he ends up.  Good luck I guess, even with the Phils. (for some reason, maybe because of their chronic ineptitude, I don't have any animosity for them.)

The only exception is the Yankees, naturally.

If the Mets thought that he would kill them somewhere else, they should have resigned him themselves.  But I agree it's probably best for Mike to sign with an AL team.

Mr Koufax, don't you think Flanders is a big jerk?

Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college.

Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loop on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a viewing.

"How'd we do it? Mirrors!"
I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.

Now that banner day is back, hopefully this years will look a little like this. I know it's not great, but i don't pretend to be a professional. embiggen!
