Open Thread - NFL Playoffs: Carolina Panthers at New York Giants

I figure a lot of you must be Giants fans like myself, so here's an open thread for the game today.

A few of my buddies are at the game; if you've never been to a professional football game, there's nothing quite like 70,000 people screaming for the same singular goal. Also, there's just something so mystical, so organic about paying $9 for a beer and $15 to park a mile away from the stadium.

I'm terrified of the Steve Smith vs The Giants Secondary matchup, and the G-Men linebacking corps is still in shambles. On the plus side they have one of the best D-lines in the league, one of the best running backs in the league, and the brother of one of the best quarterbacks in the league, so it's not all bad.

Let's go Giants!

UPDATE: This was just an awful game to watch. The Giants' defense actually played alright considering the decimation of their linebackers and the amount of time they had to spend on the field today. The offense was terrible, with Eli Manning throwing three interceptions and looking like a scared little boy out there. Tip of the cap to the Panthers' defense, which played remarkably well and shut down Tiki Barber, which alone basically neutralized the Giants' offensive attack.

Pitchers and catchers report in just under five weeks, so we have that to look forward to.

70,000 people???

I am a student at Ohio State and while going to professional football games is fun...there is nothing like 105,000 people screaming for the same singular goal. But I get where you are coming from.

I'm not sure which game was worse...

This one, in which a playoff team was shut out at home for the first time in 26 years, or that debacle in SF the last time the G-men were in the playoffs.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go vomit.

Let's not forget the playoff game in 1998 against the Vikings where the Giants led 21-3 at halftime and wound up losing.

It seems like the Vikings

are always somewhere in our orbit. We also gave them a fine walloping in 2000 on our way to the Super Bowl. They cost us huge this season with that loss for the ages on the 3 run-backs. Give us that win, and a field goal against the Shittyhwawks, and we had a good shot at the #1 seed. Oh well, I guess we just weren't ready for primetime this year.

this game reminds of the ricky waters show

against the niners in dan reeves first year i think they lost 49-3, it was an asswhupping, the linebackers thing caught up to them today, couldn't stop the run

Giants gem today

Ahhh, add this one to the aforementioned Minnesota and SF playoff games, as well as the Superbowl 5 years ago.

You know, the Mets annoy me very often, but they don't torture me the way the Giants do by playing games like this when it counts. I mean, yes, Kenny Rogers walking in the winning run was painful, but the Mets deserve some credit for taking a 3-0 deficit to the 6th game, and coming so close in that game too. And losing the WS to the #%$@ing Yankees was painful, but nobody else could beat the Yankees back then either.

The Giants just seem to like to blend monumental collapses in with awful butt-kickings on the big stage much more than the Mets do.
