Notes:
Second verse, same as first. The weather report calls for some clouds overhead in St. Louis, and the batting report calls for the Carloses to add some thunder into the mix *chortle*. Tonight's pitching matchup certainly favors the Mets, as the odds of Jeff Weaver pitching credibly for three consecutive games have to be considered long at best. Tom Glavine got another day to rest his old bones and looks to hurl another gem to send the Mets back to Queens with two chances to clinch.

Gambler's fallacy, anyone? Unfortunately -- and I say this in the full conviction that Jeff Weaver stinks, and will regress to the mean -- he still might be decent tonight.

Quick complaint about Fox
We don't get to see what the catcher puts down, where he sets up, etc., because they are busy showing 23678527863 different crowd shots before each pitch. Then they barely get back before the pitcher throws.

Reyes
PLEASE don't bash me.....
Awesome series so far guys. Such drama back and forth. You must feel good going back to NY. We are content with a 3-2 series lead and Carp on the mound, especially after a lackluster start from him earlier in the series (he hardly ever has back to back bad starts)
If I may ask...and please donm't take offense...
Why on God's green earth does Reyes, on EVERY pitch he takes for a strike, have to act like there was NO way in hell that the pitch was a strike? Trust me I am sure our hitters do things that bother you guys to no end so I am not preaching. But for the love of God, Reyes takes a pitch right down the middle for a strike and his body language/facial expressions are like there was NO WAY that pitch was even close.
It's tiresome to say the least. But as I said I am positive out guys do things that bother you guys as well.
Goodluck in game 6 fella's.

Wow
Grow up dude. I simply asked a question, a question that could easily be posed to many a Cardinal hitter. And a question a Cardinal fan would answer without an incident. I don't get to watch Reyes as much as you guys and I simply asked a question. I asked the question on this blog because I was told this was the place to get an honest, respectful, thoughtful answer without the trash talk.
And I then get the answer I get from you. Way to represent you fans dude.
I guess I will go work on Albert's hammy now.

I'll be sure to stop by your favorite Cardinals' blog if we can come back to win the series and ask you a couple of questions about why Dave Duncan didn't even congratulate his own son for hitting a home run, with all the same dripping concern you showed us. Oh and then I'll ask you about Joachin Andujar. A-hole.

you're the best
Well
All because of a loss. If I posed the same question after Mondays game you all would be answering left and right.
I asked a question about a Mets hitter, a Mets hitter I think is the BEST SS in the NL. I simply asked why it "seems" he does certains things. Because I don't see him much. All you guys had to do is tell me how you think it is, because quite frankly I am going to go with the opinions of true NY fans over MY interpretation.
Sorry if some of you don't get that.

Actually, I think I know what you're talking about, but when I see Reyes make that face it looks to me like he is saying to himself that he can't believe he didn't swing at it. Maybe I have my Mets goggles on, though. Reyes laughs a lot and seems to be having a good time no matter what's going on. He's not much of a drama queen at all, actually.
Anyway, here's hoping Carpenter throws another gem at Shea tomorrow. The Mets bullpen hardly ever has more than one bad outing in a stretch, so I'll take my chances with Johnny Maine again.
Let's go Mets!

true, the proper response to anyone who posts on this site as PujolsMVP should be to ignore them; however, when it happens five minutes after a loss, it is time to drop a couple of f-bombs.

Hey guys
At the ame time if you guys have issues or questions about STL players and ask honest insightful questions by all means we will answer them.
Yea I am a fan of STL, but better yet I am a bigger fan of baseball. I simply asked what was up with Reyes's and his deal with called strikes, and you know what? You guys have explained it pretty damn well. So thank you.

I'm doing this for Eric
by pj on Oct 18, 2006 1:20 AM EDT up reply actions
it ain't over yet.
My major concern at this point is that, for a majority of the innings in this series, the Mets hitters have looked uncharacteristically keyed-up, overanxious, and impatient. They're getting far away from the patience and power that characterized their great success this year. Reyes is the easiest poster boy to pick for the new, flailing approach, but everyone has shown it -- LoDuca's been much less patient since August or September, even Wright is pressing and not looking like the dominant 2-strike hitter he was during the regular season. Only Delgado -- not coincidentally, the most mature and experienced pure hitter on the team -- has seemed immune to pressing at the plate. I wonder if the relative weakness of the lineup with Floyd injured has played a part in this. Honestly, at this point I have a hard time figuring out how Jeff Weaver, Jeff Suppan, and a bullpen full of raw rookies have put this good a team on the brink of elimination. I don't think you can give all that credit to the St. Louis pitchers, though they've sure impressed me with their preparation and scouting; I think the Mets have changed their approach at the plate, and it's costing them dearly. Hard to say the Met pitching has disappointed very much, either; aside from the one bullpen explosion, all these games have been well within reach for a long time while the Mets struggled even to get runners on base. It's going to be over soon one way or the other, and I'll be screaming and hoping with the 55,000 other faithful tomorrow, but I have to say I don't like the Mets' chances too much at this point.
ESPN just showed a stat
Like Eric said above, we have some factors in our favor, and so do they. Just gotta play it out.
ah, some baseball analysis here
Good take on the hitting, anonymous. I'll add that the Mets of late seem to lose hope or lose steam when they fall behind. As we all remember, this team has not given up all season--why are they starting now? A come-from-behind win tonight might have re-affirmed something for them. Alas, it was not to be.
Let's hope Willie gets them up to play tomorrow. I'll be there, too. Let's go Mets.
