Howard wins MVP; Beltran 4th

Ryan Howard finished the season on fire despite the fact that he was the only fear-inducing bat in the Phillies lineup. This was a two-horse race between Howard and Pujols with Lance Berkman getting some interest. Interestingly, three mets finished in the top 10. Beltran finished in 4th with one second place vote and 5 third place votes. In a sign of the bright future of the Mets organization, Reyes and Wright both received third place votes. Carlos DelGado finished in 12th place.

Have you forgotten the best hitting second basemen in baseball? Chase Utley?

Yeah, that bat was fear-inducing too, and gave Howard way more opportunities than Pujols did with RISP.

i meant behind him

there is no doubt that howard benefitted from having rollins and utley in front of him. you can't drive in 149 runs with no one on base. after the abreau trade, howard batted cleanup with a combination of burrell(chronically injured)/dellucci(surprisingly good 2006) batting behind him. i suppose it doesn't matter b/c at the end of the year he was hitting so well that you'd rather pitch to anyone else b/c they were not ryan howard.
