blowhard and the retard
will, unfortunately, be calling a mets game in the near future (vs. Phillies).

as far as i know they will not be calling tomorrow's game in St. Louis. If those douche's get to call a mets game started by Lima Time, then I should get to call a Skanks game when Scott Erickson starts for washed-up Randy Johnson.

Again at full strength
everywhere but the mound, and last and certainly least, tonight's calls proudly botched by:

HP: Jim Reynolds. 1B: Tim Welke. 2B: Kerwin Danley. 3B: Gary Cederstrom.

One bad call
One batter. Reyes clearly foul tipped that, but apparently the umpire missed the huge change in direction.

by future on May 17, 2006 8:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Beltran
grounds into the easy DP...did anyone see how bad of a jump Lo Duca got?

I noticed that, you guys think that they watered down the basepaths for Reyes?

1-2-3
For Trachsel.

Good start.

by future on May 17, 2006 8:23 PM EDT reply actions

Wow
That 2-1 pitch was low and outside.

But Milwaukee leads 1-0 in the top of the second.

by future on May 17, 2006 8:26 PM EDT reply actions

Well apparently
putting the ball closer to the plate and higher is a ball when thrown to Edmonds.

Make a consistent strike zone, blue.

Miles
makes a good play on a Matsui liner.

Stupid Phillies have taken the lead.

Anyone else watching the game on ESPN?
It's nice to not have to watch the game on mlb.tv for once.

Nice to see Steve get a strikeout
to get out of the inning. Rodriguez chases some high cheese.

Nice K by Trachsel
We're going to the 4th, scoreless.

Beltran's
OPS is near 1000.

Delgado GIDP though.

Nice play by Rolen.

Another inning and it will be in the book.

The
unintentional/intentional walk to Pujols, get Edmonds and then Rolen doubled on a good 0-2 pitch.

The DW
K hurts especially because it seemed that the first pitch was the best he saw and perfect for the opposite field Sac fly that usually puts out there.

by udamnwright on May 17, 2006 10:44 PM EDT reply actions

floyd
He missed two pitches right down middle. he's way off. Tip your hat to the pitchers. Again, bad in the clutch. maybe lima will surprise us tomorrow whose pitching for cards
It's only a game

by elifriedman on May 17, 2006 10:46 PM EDT reply actions

I'm late to the party, but...
Was anyone else wondering where Floyd was on that RBI hit by Rolen?  It was hit to left-center, and Floyd didn't even come into the picture on the TV, let alone cut it off.  I wanted to see a replay from a different angle.

If Floyd cuts that ball off, Pujols doesn't score.

The fault lies with the Mets offense for this loss, and with Willie's questionable bunt call in the ninth, but if Pujols didn't score FROM FIRST on that hit, it would have been a different game.

by kingcritical on May 17, 2006 10:47 PM EDT reply actions

Hard to fault Willie
he was trying to score without a hit.  The fastest man in the league was on third with one out.  How many clutch hits have you seen the Mets get in the last few weeks?  Blaming Willie for a bunt when we had the bases loaded with one out is silly.  D Wright did not get the job done.  The strike three pitch looked very hittable.

by Art Vandaley on May 17, 2006 10:52 PM EDT up reply actions

agreed, but
I don't think the bunt was totally a wrong call, just questionable.  That sac out ultimately proved to be quite precious.  Why not let PLD try to put one in play?  He doesn't strike out much.  If it was anyone else up there, I might say bunt.

The Mets were playing for the tie, and it's hard to win in extras on the road.

Yeah, Delgado and Wright unable to get a ball in the air, that was pretty bad.  And Floyd, I just feel bad for him.

by kingcritical on May 17, 2006 10:59 PM EDT up reply actions

I know
But he saw a few pitches before that.

by kingcritical on May 17, 2006 11:03 PM EDT up reply actions

But he got hit
his at bat did not finish.  It would be like blaming Beltran for walking.

by Art Vandaley on May 17, 2006 11:07 PM EDT up reply actions

I think
his point is that he would have liked to see him get one of the first pitches he saw in the air to drive the run in. He is not blaming just saying that maybe he could have gotten a sac fly on an earlier pitch.

by udamnwright on May 17, 2006 11:10 PM EDT up reply actions

I really do not think that is fair
he never had a full shot to do that- he got hit by a pitch.  You cannot lump Delgado's at bat and Wright's at bat together.  Delgado now has to get a sac fly in the right number of pitches?  We as fans are so very protective of Wright and that is fine.  Bottom line is he messed up the inning, not Willie, Delgado or even Cliffy. which is fine.  No one is perfect and baseball is a game of failure. But let's not start blaming guys for not getting sac flys when they got hit by pitches.

by Art Vandaley on May 17, 2006 11:18 PM EDT up reply actions

If you look at the
post game comments I put the blame on Wright fully I was just stating where it appeared to me King was coming from.

by udamnwright on May 17, 2006 11:19 PM EDT up reply actions

no kidding
I'm not blaming Delgado, just saying that things didn't work out as planned--the Mets had their biggest bats up, they needed one of them to get a fly ball (or a walk in Wright's case), and it didn't happen.

by kingcritical on May 17, 2006 11:13 PM EDT up reply actions

not crazy
about bunt either, but Willie figured one of the big hitters could get run in. they just didn't. Floyd may have been positioning Rolen to pull more.YOu can't blame him for that, but he's killing the team with his hitting
It's only a game

by elifriedman on May 17, 2006 10:50 PM EDT reply actions

nobody is coming thru in clutch
that means that everybody is pressing.
It's only a game

by elifriedman on May 17, 2006 10:54 PM EDT reply actions

Exactly
I can't fault Willie for bunting. He got sir speedy to to third with the 3 and 4 hitters coming up and only 1 out.

by udamnwright on May 17, 2006 10:57 PM EDT up reply actions

If everyone needs someone to blame in
the 9th it was Wright. Anything but a K or pop up gets it done.  Double play ball you have to live with because it was probably hit hard.

by Art Vandaley on May 17, 2006 11:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Unfortunate but true
I still say like my previous post the first pitch in his AB looked like a perfect opposite field sac fly and yes I thought it when I saw the first pitch. Not sure if he has seen Izzy though so he may have wanted to make him throw a strike and see his release.

by udamnwright on May 17, 2006 11:07 PM EDT up reply actions

well
I don't like the bunt because you're playing for tie on the road and LoDuca has been pretty clutch so if he gets an extra base hit you're in position to win. Anyway, I'm not killing Willie for it. somebody had to get at least a fly ball there.
It's only a game

by elifriedman on May 17, 2006 10:59 PM EDT reply actions

In that
spot you can argue with his choice either way but someone has to get a ball in the air or through the drawn in infield. I was actually thinking it might be worth and very gutsy to ask DW to drop one down and make them get the out at home or turn 2 but that would be ballsy.

by udamnwright on May 17, 2006 11:04 PM EDT reply actions

no way
that's real silly

Yep
Thank you Brewers if anyone saw the finally play Aaron Rowand would have caught the ball. Now if Fla can ever hold a lead and beat the Braves.

a hypothetical
Say around the trade deadline the mets are close, but Floyd never gets going do you trade Milledge for Manny
It's only a game

by elifriedman on May 17, 2006 11:30 PM EDT reply actions

no
Bring Milledge in and put him in left field.

by kingcritical on May 17, 2006 11:34 PM EDT up reply actions

no
The Mets don't need another bat, even with Floyd struggles, there 4th in the NL in runs scored. Manny would be overkill. Now for Dontrelle, I would might part with Milledge.

milledge
is slumping at Norfolk. I wouldn't do it either, but Omar loves Manny and the team is built to win now. Hopefully, it doesn't come to this

by elifriedman on May 17, 2006 11:37 PM EDT reply actions

Hard luck loss tonight
Loading the bases meant they had to throw strikes, remarkable that DW and CF couldn't get anything into the outfield, but them's the breaks.

Well pitched on both sides; Trax certainly did his job. Delgado struggling against a lefty is something we have to accept, although Floyd is having more problems with them than usual.

Hopefully the bats wake up tamarra.

Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college.

Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loop on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a viewing.

"How'd we do it? Mirrors!"
I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.
