that sucked
but at least the team was trying to make the WS. I think it was an overreaction to game against Boston where Bentiez imploded with the help of a Mora SS error. Melvin would also be a fine 2b option.

by DoctorK16 on Jun 6, 2006 10:26 PM EDT up reply actions

that was a bad deal,
but not because of the player Mora went on to become.  It's not really fair to fault the Mets for that, since nobody -- not even the team that traded for him -- expected his transformation into an explosive hitter.  It was still a bad deal, though.

by anonymous on Jun 6, 2006 10:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Nice
Seriously, though. The Kazmir trade was terrible, but it's very premature to compare it to epically bad trades of baseball past. He's a kid with a world of talent and he has plenty of time to develop into a star, but he hasn't done anything yet. Regardless of what he does it should be considered a bungled deal from the Mets' perspective, but it's nowhere near being mentioned in the same breath as the Ryan, Pedro, or Smoltz deals, let alone dozens of other deals that are still worse to this point.

by Eric Simon on Jun 6, 2006 10:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Smoltz I don't consider
a bad trade. The Tigers sold their soul to win a WS. I can't blame them, teams don't get that shot often. Alexander was 9-0 for them down when it counted.

Achilles is
in the back of the ankle and usually gets injured from pushing off of your foot or bad impact landing from a jump of some sort. That is not to say that it is not an achilles just not likely from the replay, but there are many other ligaments in the ankle that could be hurt.

This goes back to the whole
is he a good #2 hitter or not thing.  He has had some clutch at bats, but for the most part the best thing he does is take pitches for Reyes to run.  I find that for being a "heady" player, he does stupid things like swinging at a ball on 2-0 after a walk to the leadoff man and your big guys coming up.

Think Willie would have the cajones to put
Milledge in there?  Or let Milledge lead off and let Jose hit 2nd?  I wonder how PLD would take it being moved down to 7th or 8th.

by Mr. Met on Jun 6, 2006 11:04 PM EDT up reply actions

not sure
does not seem to be his style, to have two relatively inexpreienced guys batting one and two.  Honestly, I think Wright might be best suited due to his ability to go the other way, take pitches, hit with two strikes but still provide pop.  Probably more so if we were an American league team than national so he would still get some solid rbi chances [ala Jeter].

I was just kidding
you don't have to care.

It was a great game though.  Darling had a no-hitter going into the 8th.  Mets had a 3 run lead.  Phillies got a single, and Davey Johnson immediately pulls him, for who knows what reason, after which McDowell and Orosco proceeded to blow the game.

I saw Darling in the train station and he was nice enough to sign the foul ball I'd caught earlier, even though it was obvious he was frustrated with the result from the game.  He was there with his wife (that red-head model) and a bunch of kids, I interrupted him to get the autograph but he was totally cool about it.  I always regretted bothing him after that because who needs a stupid autograph anyway?

Train station in Philly.
The foul ball catch was a surreal moment.  I was there punching out an all-star ballot with my dad's keys along the 3rd base line, a few rows back from the tarp, and lefty-hitting Von Hayes just lofted it straight to me.  The whole thing was in slow motion.  I knew right away it was coming to me.

My dad was sitting to my right and so happened to lean forward right at the moment the ball arrived or it would have hit him in the head.  He was totally oblivious to the ball coming.  But I just caught it right on the fly, no bobble or anything, and didn't even realize what happened to the keys for quite a while.  They ended up like 2 rows away.

Trying to stay out of this so just one comment.
I don't think anyone cares if you love him.  You do seem to run the guy down a lot without any real basis, other than you obviously just don't like the guy for whatever reason.  He makes more money than you think he should, even though you're not the one signing his check, you call him a wuss when he's injured, etc. etc.  It just doesn't seem like a reasonable point of view on your part.

by Mr. Met on Jun 7, 2006 12:00 AM EDT up reply actions

i don't care if you love him
or give him love which isn't the same.

however, when a guy lays himself out to make a catch, injures himself (which is physics, not a personality trait), but stays in the game anyway it isn't about paychecks, it is about the love.

love of game, love of team, love of the fans (even the ones on the internet).

if all you can do is heap scorn on a guy like that then you are a douche.

The Derek Lowe Face is ... anguished and tortured (imagine someone taking a dump and suddenly realizing that there's no toilet paper in the bathroom). And as soon as Lowe starts making that face, the umpires should halt the game and award it to whomever the Red Sox are playing. I have to admit, I'm haunted by The Derek Lowe Face.

well
if Stache turns that DP on the Wright feed, he probably gets out at 4-2 and the game is different. All those tack on runs that Bell allowed turned out to be huge. Not a good game for the team in general.
its a ground ball...trickling... its a fair ball, its by Buckner, rounding third Knight, the Mets will win the ballgame, the Mets win

Agreed. That error by Stache was huge. Pedro
and the Mets in his starts just can't seem to catch much of a break.

Looks like Floyd's gonna be a coach for a week
or two. He may start pinch htting and thus avoid the DL, but he can't play left on that thing for at least a week from the sounds of it.

Milledge couldn't have happened at a better time, but now we're down 2 of 3 starters in the outfield. Floyd was just thawing as well.

I predict Omar makes another move soon, in the field, but hopefully a good one. We don't want to give up our lead in the standings.

2013 ALL-STAR GAME(TM) LOGO CONTEST

Major League Baseball has formally announced that Citi Field will be the site of the 2013 All-Star Game. (see video) In light of this, I have decided to launch an All-Star Game logo contest. To help get you started, I provided all of you with a sample All-Star Game logo. (click here to embiggen) If you wish to participate, please enter your submission with an image below, in the comments section. The contest ends on May 31st. I will choose a select number of finalists, and the community will vote on which of those logos is the best one.

Can you create a better logo than the sample logo provided? Then, give it a shot. Good luck to all participants!
Jon Rauch is awesome. Dan Tanna is, obviously, a fan of Greg Pomes.
LET'S GO METS GIF

By the way, I need some help here - is there any way to make this gif go faster? The "Let's" and "Go" sequences are only supposed to be 500 milliseconds each, and "Mets" a full second. Instead, each sequence is at least a full 1000 milliseconds (1 second) longer than it should be.
The first picture of a not devastated Tom Glavine after Game 162 of 2007 has finally been released.

(This is an old and kind of out of left field reference, but hey, we're playing the Marlins right now and John Maine just got released, so it's sort of relevant, plus I spent approximately 6.5 minutes making it and felt like I had to share.)
The reaction at Harrenhal Castle, payback was swift today!
