Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

Mets viewing party at Tonic - 8/15

So I don't know if any of y'all are thinking of turning up for this thing, but it sounds like it could be a laugh.  Or it could be two thousand sweaty frat boys stuffed inside a midtown bar watching the Mets get shut out by John Leiber.

But life is what you make of it, and cheap beer is cheap beer.  I'm thinking of going - anyone else?

I might check that out
Thanks for the link. I haven't planned my social calendar as far ahead as next Tuesday, but it might be worth seeing how that thing is.

Maybe we can even make it an informal Amazin' Avenue get-together if a few people say they are going. A few guys from this site might tone down the sweaty-frat-boy factor. We're all intellectuals, right?

Yeah
But I am a little bit sweaty.
"He even tried to pimp it," Floyd said. "He's got no pimp." Said Wright: "I don't even know what that means."

I can deal with that
As long as you can put together complete sentences when talking about baseball (or anything else for that matter).

Oh, yeah
I can totally do that.

Shame I'm gonna miss this...
... to hell with Darling, I could go for the cheap beer.

Of course, you know I voted option four.

Ya gotta believe, baby... BELIEVE!

Bah - can't make it anyway
I now have a meeting scheduled for tomorrow evening, so won't be able to make it after all.

Still, we should consider an AA game night at a bar (or even a game) sometime before the season ends.  Could be fun.

I was inspired by Eric's comment that Olerud had the best 3-year run as a Met outside Carlos Beltran to look at a few different Mets, and when I noticed that two of my all-time favorite players (Alfonzo and Strawberry) were kinda screwed by having (relatively)bad seasons in between some really good seasons, I decided to see which Mets had the best 3 seasons, period (non-consecutively). Beltran still comes out on top, but my all-time favorite player Alfonzo comes in 2nd place, and him and Straw are the only two to have three 6.0+ WAR seasons. Also interesting that Hundley comes out ahead of Gary Carter, Cleon Jones almost finishes ahead of Mike Piazza, and Joe McEwing doesn't make the list.
