Kaz: Born Again?

Perhaps the good folks of Colorado Springs have cast the devil out of Kaz Matsui, who is "4-for-8 with three walks in three games since being called up" to the great ballpark in the sky.

(By which, I mean Coors Field.)

Dear Kaz,

I write you in spite of years of silence.  You've cleaned up, found Jesus: things are good, or so I hear.

I'll be there tomorrow and Thursday,
so I'll let you know.  I would have gone Wednesday too but the wife insisted on going to Cirque du Soleil that night (bitch! - kidding).

There was an interesting article in the paper here the other day about how Kaz flew to LA for lunch, because he wasn't satisfied with the quality of Japanese food in Denver, I guess.

"The Mets with the bases loaded: Chavez, great speed, Reyes, great speed, Lo Duca, good guy."

That's funny
And not surprising.

One of the advantages Seattle has in recruiting Japanese players is Uwajimaya.  Fantastic place.

Cirque de Soliel
Yuch. I would only go if Todd Helton was on the trapeze. I have a friend who has been trying to get me to go for years. I have happily resisted although, all kidding aside, I hear it is a great show.

Poor Kaz, he has to come up with stupid things to do with his money. I think that we should change the Roberto Alomar Underachievment Award to the Kaz Matsui Overpaid Triple-A Caliber Player Award.

Update
The Rotoworld note is a few days old.  Kaz is now 7-17, with three walks and five runs scored.

Nice piece on him here.  Hope he does well, but not against us.

Actually, I'd like him to homer against the Mets, just to kind of stick it to some of the boobirds.  I mean, he was a failure for us, but I always kinda felt for him.

how about feeling sorry
for a guy making 30K a year and trying to support his family. I have nothing against Kaz, but I sure have no sympathy for a guy who never has to work again.

True enough
But on another scale of judgment.  In the big picture, I don't feel bad for any of these guys, who get to cash paychecks to play ball games and make ten times what most people do even on the league minimum.

But in the little world of baseball, I feel for Kaz Matsui, just like I felt for Nate Fisher when Lisa died, no matter how much he fucked up.  It's fiction.

Not like it matters to Kaz anyway.

understand your point
but I didn't feel too sorry for Nate because he didn't care for Lisa that much anyway. I did feel bad for David when he was carjacked and almost killed by that maniac

Good quote
I like the way this diary had ended.

I then went to look at Kaz's stats, and saw he was hitting .255/.300/.340.  I was going to say SAY IT AIN'T SOOOOOOOOOOO!

But then I looked closer, and he's hitting .379.438.500 as a Rockie...so I have nothing.

matsui = domination
he is now hitting .355/.398/.484 in about 100 AB with the Rox, not to mention 17 RBI out of the leadoff spot, 2 triples, and 8 steals v. only 1 CS.

someone will actually probably sign him to a 1-year deal next season, possibly even as a starter (though more likely as a platoon guy).

Good Lord
Good for him, but that's unreal.

I was inspired by Eric's comment that Olerud had the best 3-year run as a Met outside Carlos Beltran to look at a few different Mets, and when I noticed that two of my all-time favorite players (Alfonzo and Strawberry) were kinda screwed by having (relatively)bad seasons in between some really good seasons, I decided to see which Mets had the best 3 seasons, period (non-consecutively). Beltran still comes out on top, but my all-time favorite player Alfonzo comes in 2nd place, and him and Straw are the only two to have three 6.0+ WAR seasons. Also interesting that Hundley comes out ahead of Gary Carter, Cleon Jones almost finishes ahead of Mike Piazza, and Joe McEwing doesn't make the list.
