whee!
The Mets are riding high with the series already won and Beltran not seriously hurt.  I'm hoping, somewhat optimistically, that he'll be back in center field for Tuesday's game, which I'll be at.  Meantime, the AAA team gets a crack at the Astros this afternoon, and I actually like their chances.

Whee?
You funny.

in the head, perhaps.
But it's been a good ride this season.

All the news outlets are prematurely prognosticating about Floyd not getting a contract from the Mets this offseason.  But why wouldn't we want him back?  I'd like to see the whole 4-man outfield from this year's roster get offers next year -- Beltran and Green are already on the hook, and Chavez and Floyd should be easy to retain.  I like the depth and versatility of this group a lot, and though a little extra right-handed pop might not hurt, there's something to be said for having 4 competent and affordable starters.

by anonymous on Sep 3, 2006 2:13 PM EDT up reply actions

just looking over the '07 free agents
there's almost no one out there who would represent an upgrade over Floyd's offense from either side of the plate.  Carlos Lee, maybe Trot Nixon or Milton Bradley, past that it looks like a wash to me.  Why not ask Cliff back for another year, especially when we'd have enough depth that an injury wouldn't kill the team?

by anonymous on Sep 3, 2006 2:19 PM EDT up reply actions

I totally agree, Cliff's been great, even with
his relatively down year this year.  I've been saying all year I hope he comes back but everyone seems to think it's a foregone conclusion that he won't be re-signed.

I'm spending the day with the family
but wanted to stop by to say Go Mets! Time to get some hits and runs off Oswalt! Let's go!

OK, see ya.

And yeah, Endy gets the "10th man" award.

by the way,
ROY OSWALT IS PITCHING A NO-HITTER SO FAR.  Hear that?

by anonymous on Sep 3, 2006 3:22 PM EDT reply actions

I'm not sure if that works on the opposition.
But, just in case, YOU MEAN A PERFECT GAME!!!

I loves havin' me some ND on this team.

wow.
This is going to be the mother of all small-ball victories if Oswalt continues to pitch lights out.  A suicide squeeze bunt!

by anonymous on Sep 3, 2006 3:50 PM EDT reply actions

Yep - smart play.
The good thing for us is that it gives us a better chance to avoid a big inning though, if Robo can just get Oswalt out.

I suppose it would be wrong to plunk Oswalt in the ribs in this situation, right?

"The Mets with the bases loaded: Chavez, great speed, Reyes, great speed, Lo Duca, good guy."

Damn - Oswalt looked safe there.

maybe
he got a little tired running down the line there?  Knock on wood.  Hell, I'll even take a 1-0 loss as long as we pick up a dignity hit or two here.

It's all ready to fall apart for Roy.

Cliff's opportunity for sweet revenge.
Bring it, baby.

All right well Cliff didn't exactly bust it
down the line there.  But I guess he's taking care of his ankle.  I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
"The Mets with the bases loaded: Chavez, great speed, Reyes, great speed, Lo Duca, good guy."

by Mr. Met on Sep 3, 2006 4:01 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah.
I think Cliff just can't be expected to be all that fast anymore, whether he expends all his effort or not.

by anonymous on Sep 3, 2006 4:02 PM EDT up reply actions

maybe not falling apart yet,
but it'd sure be nice to cash in Reyes from third, tie the game, and go the rest of the way with a decent chance to win.

by anonymous on Sep 3, 2006 4:00 PM EDT reply actions

dammit.
Oswalt seems to really stymie the left-handers -- even with the IBB to Delgado, both Floyd and Green looked pretty bad against him.

by anonymous on Sep 3, 2006 4:03 PM EDT up reply actions

No Worries.
Woodward still has another shot.

man.
Have I said recently how much I miss Ramon Castro?  Here's DiFelice, a totally punchless suposed catch-and-throw guy, and he can't even get Taveras on a pitchout!

1 hit and SIX (6) BB for Duque
Six walks c'mon. I know it's a bandbox, but still.

squeezed
The home-plate ump has a very small strike zone today, and Duque has been noticeably upset with a few borderline calls.  Oswalt is dealing so one-sidedly he doesn't seem to be affected by it, though it's been called consistently.  Duque was trying a lot of borderline pitches and living with the BBs instead of grooving pitches.

Strange choice, bringing Oliver in here,
don't you think?  The other Oliver might at least have a shot at a K.

by Mr. Met on Sep 3, 2006 4:16 PM EDT reply actions

Howie Rose
was speculating this might be a bit of a playoff audition for Darren Oliver -- see how he does in a more high-pressure late-inning situation, since the back of the rotation will already provide enough long men for the playoffs.

Another great play by ND.

Oswalt's just pissed
we didn't trade for his ass.

by peeder on Sep 3, 2006 4:18 PM EDT reply actions

He can't be all that pissed or he would have
become a free agent and let us sign him in a couple of months.

Well Garner actually made the right move
Qualls in for a four-out save. So, we'll see if we can knot it in the 9th.

You have to like our bench today.

by Mr. Met on Sep 3, 2006 4:30 PM EDT up reply actions

but this was the inning to use it.
Nobody in the 9th you can really pinch-hit for until Woodward (though maybe you could make a case for Valentin).  But by the time Woody batted in the ninth the game would likely be already tied up.

by anonymous on Sep 3, 2006 4:31 PM EDT up reply actions

As I mentioned earlier
resting Wright is more important right now...this could go extras.

by peeder on Sep 3, 2006 4:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah I'd take a loss today rather than a long
extra inning game.

I actually think Qualls is a better pitcher.

Anyway we emerge from that toxic drum
With the team intact and a series win.

We have the Dodgers in town but apart from facing some wildcard hopefuls things look good from here.

2013 ALL-STAR GAME(TM) LOGO CONTEST

Major League Baseball has formally announced that Citi Field will be the site of the 2013 All-Star Game. (see video) In light of this, I have decided to launch an All-Star Game logo contest. To help get you started, I provided all of you with a sample All-Star Game logo. (click here to embiggen) If you wish to participate, please enter your submission with an image below, in the comments section. The contest ends on May 31st. I will choose a select number of finalists, and the community will vote on which of those logos is the best one.

Can you create a better logo than the sample logo provided? Then, give it a shot. Good luck to all participants!
Jon Rauch is awesome. Dan Tanna is, obviously, a fan of Greg Pomes.
LET'S GO METS GIF

By the way, I need some help here - is there any way to make this gif go faster? The "Let's" and "Go" sequences are only supposed to be 500 milliseconds each, and "Mets" a full second. Instead, each sequence is at least a full 1000 milliseconds (1 second) longer than it should be.
The first picture of a not devastated Tom Glavine after Game 162 of 2007 has finally been released.

(This is an old and kind of out of left field reference, but hey, we're playing the Marlins right now and John Maine just got released, so it's sort of relevant, plus I spent approximately 6.5 minutes making it and felt like I had to share.)
The reaction at Harrenhal Castle, payback was swift today!
