Kris Benson Out for '07?

Blurb on the MSN home page just caught my eye, "Oriole starter out for year."  Yes, it's our old friend Kris Benson, and yes, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports says it's a rotator cuff tear.  Surgery and a year of rehab.

I feel sorry for the guy, if only because he now has to spend a lot more time with his wife (easy on the eyes, not so easy on the ears).

So I guess that trade's looking better and better.  Benson for Maine, who I hope will be a decent 3-4 starter for the next few years, and Julio, who was flipped for El Duque.  All in all, not a blockbuster, but a very smart and/or lucky deal by Omar.

The Orioles signed Trachsel to take his spot.
We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!

Trachsel and Wright
The Birds have both Steve Trachsel and Jaret Wright in their rotation.  If you can't beat the teams from New York, at least you can sign their crappiest starting pitchers.

Seriously, is there a worse team to be a fan of right now than Baltimore?  I mean, the Devil Rays have a fantastic farm system, the Royals have some hot prospects, and even the Pirates have a slim chance this year considering how wretched their division is.  None of the above applies to Baltimore.

I feel bad for Benson, but at least we can thank his psycho wife for ripping on Carlos Delgado, thus getting Omar to turn Kris into John Maine and (indirectly) Orlando Hernandez.

I declare jihad on Yadier Molina

Trax in the AL East
I predict an ERA of 6+ and a WHIP of 1.8.
its a ground ball...trickling... its a fair ball, its by Buckner, rounding third Knight, the Mets will win the ballgame, the Mets win

I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.

Now that banner day is back, hopefully this years will look a little like this. I know it's not great, but i don't pretend to be a professional. embiggen!
In order to raise extra capital, the Mets have explored signing Kosuke Fukudome to a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training (replete with curiously high uniform number).
