From Jayson Stark: How many W's in Pedro's arm?

How many W's in Pedro's arm?
posted: Wednesday, March 14, 2007

LAKELAND, Fla. -- A high-ranking official of an American League team told me this winter he doesn't think Pedro Martinez will win 10 more games the rest of his career.

Yeah, that's 10.

As in: Not even as many as Mark (Unemployed 'Til Last Week) Redman won last year.

Does anyone have a subscription to ESPN Insider, and if so, can you tell us if this article has anything worth reporting?

Many here know I have a man-crush on Pedro and will be chomping at the bit to see him pitch again. But mainly I want him to be healthy. I think the prediction above is ridiculous. But on the other hand, I think even Pedro himself would say he's all about the team, and even if he personally never wins another game, that would be OK, as long as the Mets win his starts. All one has to do is look at Pedro's May of last year to see how easy it is to get an undeserved N/D or an L.

WTF does he know about it?
Those kind of predictions are absurd.  I saw Pedro in the dugout tonight and he looked like he was having a great time.

My prediction is that he'll come back a little sooner than expected and will put together 10 wins this year alone (which is equally as ill-informed an opinion as Stark's).

Watch me paste this pathetic palooka with a powerful paralyzing perfect pachydermous percussion pitch.

Max!
Happy spring.  Good to see you.

Even if Pedro never pitches another game for the Mets (or another game, period), the investment that Omar made has more than paid for itself.  The Mets renaissance we've seen all started with that signing.

That said, I'm looking forward to seeing Pedro win 20-25 games in a Mets uniform over the next two seasons.

We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!

Hi King,
Good to see you too. I've been really busy, but I still check in here every day. Gotta read about my Mets, and this is my favorite site.

Eric, you've been doing a great job!

This mysterious AL exec
Likely works for the Red Sox and trying to justify their decision. He has no way of knowing what Pedro will do in the future, nobody does. All this does as serves at motivation to Pedro, this was guy who too something, small, short, etc. be a star and he became one.
its a ground ball...trickling... its a fair ball, its by Buckner, rounding third Knight, the Mets will win the ballgame, the Mets win

Quality journalism
My mother's sister's cousin's roomate says that Jayson Stark is a moron.

It must be true.

Pedro
I just wish he would start rooming with Franco, so he could figure out how to keep in better shape. Pedro looks older than Gramps!

Prediction: 10 wins in three months. And that'll be JUST FINE.

I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.

Now that banner day is back, hopefully this years will look a little like this. I know it's not great, but i don't pretend to be a professional. embiggen!
In order to raise extra capital, the Mets have explored signing Kosuke Fukudome to a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training (replete with curiously high uniform number).
