David Wright <3's Alex Rodriguez

David Wright loves him some A-Rod. DWright would give up 3B if it meant the Mets could acquire A-Rod.

I'm not sure if you guys have seen this piece or not (sorry if you have), but its an extremely amusing story. I have no idea why the writer thinks D-Wright could only play Left Field in '08. He would look awesome at second base. Due to the monies that this would involve, I could never see this happening, but wow what a pipe dream: 3b-Arod SS-Reyes 2B-DWright 1B-Delgado. nice!

Well, obviously we'll have to wait to see what happens in the offseason with A-Rod, but I don't think it's out of the question that he'd leave the Yankees (especially with Boras as his agent).  Would I like to see A-Rod in a Mets uniform?  Absolutely, as he's one of the best hitters on the planet.  I also don't buy any of the crap that's said about him in the media, whether he's a "choker" (really?  check out his stats in the 2000 ALCS or the 2004 division series) or that he's a bad presence in the clubhouse.

But what I love about Wright's quote (and I doubt he intended it this way) is that it makes him look that much better as a teammate than Jeter.  If anything, the whole A-Rod saga in pinstripes makes it clear how much of a petty jerk Captain The Face Of Baseball is.  Jeter should have switched positions, not A-Rod, and if Jeter is going to come to the defense of Giambi when he's hitting .190 after he admitted using steroids, he damned well better come to the defense of the better player (and one who didn't cheat) in A-Rod.

Driving the Oliver Perez bandwagon!

yea
i don't buy into the "choke" hype either.  I'd be a little leary about signing him, just because he's expensive, he'd be 33 years old, and DWright would have to change positions.  Next off-season (it should be illegal to even mention it) could be extremely interesting.  I just hope I don't hear (on ESPN Radio, no less) that A-Rod has been acquired by the Mets to only minutes later be told that this is false i.e. Manny Ramirez '05 offseason :  (

Well said
Jeter has acted like a threatened little boy since the day the Yankees traded for A-Rod.  I think that we all have had enough of schmucks like McCarver spewing unsubstantiated bullshit about how he is a "team player who only cares about winning."  The guy has the biggest and most fragile ego in sports.

Jeter
I dunno about Jeter, but A-Rod has been acting like a threatened little boy since high school.

I was inspired by Eric's comment that Olerud had the best 3-year run as a Met outside Carlos Beltran to look at a few different Mets, and when I noticed that two of my all-time favorite players (Alfonzo and Strawberry) were kinda screwed by having (relatively)bad seasons in between some really good seasons, I decided to see which Mets had the best 3 seasons, period (non-consecutively). Beltran still comes out on top, but my all-time favorite player Alfonzo comes in 2nd place, and him and Straw are the only two to have three 6.0+ WAR seasons. Also interesting that Hundley comes out ahead of Gary Carter, Cleon Jones almost finishes ahead of Mike Piazza, and Joe McEwing doesn't make the list.
