Not that anyone really wants to see it, but I'll have the Aftermath for last night's debacle up later as well as the one for this afternoon's game which, with a smidge of luck, won't make me want to gouge out my eyes just to save myself the horror of having to watch.

Kelly Johnson
I think Kelly Johnson used the word "fun" about a hundred times during his pregame interview with Ed Coleman just now.  It's going to be hard for me to hate a player who enjoys his job that much.

Timing
I actually put some thought into this one, so it usually pops up a little bit after the MG one. Since I pretty much phoned this one in today I rung this one up first.

New Kid
What's up, everyone. I just joined Amazin' Avenue and am excited about this season. Looking to rebound from last night's three hours of misery. Here's hoping we get it started before the ninth inning today.

Uh oh

Paul Lo Duca, who found himself in the gossip pages last year in stories about ... relationships with young women, is again getting unwanted attention for his off-the-field escapades.

Yesterday could have been a nice day for the Mets catcher after success at the race track, but Lo Duca got into a heated verbal confrontation with a reporter before the Mets' game against the Braves at Shea.

Guts Game, a filly partly owned by Lo Duca, won the second race at Aqueduct yesterday, and Lo Duca was pictured in the winner's circle with a woman. When he was asked in the clubhouse for her name, Lo Duca erupted.

"That's my life," Lo Duca shouted. "That's my personal life. That's none of your business. How would you like it if I went to your house and took pictures of your wife?"

When reminded that he is a public figure, and was pictured in a public place, Lo Duca inched closer to the reporter. Lo Duca was held back by Mets public relations director Jay Horwitz and Julio Franco came from across the clubhouse to get between Lo Duca and the reporter.

"I can't take her out, is that what you are saying?" Lo Duca said.

The confrontation lasted about three minutes before Lo Duca left the clubhouse. The catcher, who missed Thursday's game with a sore right index finger, was in the lineup last night.

I was in New York
last year for Game 2 & 3 of the Dodgers series, but I was there for my cousin's wedding so....I couldn't go.

I'm actually planning to go down to SD to see them play again(I did last year when Pedro pitched).  And  yes, I need to get a game in at Shea before Citi is up and running.  It's been way too long.

The Ball Boy
Gary and Keith keep insisting that the ball boy is in play, and that his interference isn't "fan interference". But I remember a play in Montreal 5 or 6 years ago, when a Met hit a ball down the line and after the ballboy picked it up, it was ruled a ground-rule double. Did they change the rule?

if the ball is intentionally
picked up its a ground rule double because the field can't play it after that obviously. But if it hits him its still in play.

I was inspired by Eric's comment that Olerud had the best 3-year run as a Met outside Carlos Beltran to look at a few different Mets, and when I noticed that two of my all-time favorite players (Alfonzo and Strawberry) were kinda screwed by having (relatively)bad seasons in between some really good seasons, I decided to see which Mets had the best 3 seasons, period (non-consecutively). Beltran still comes out on top, but my all-time favorite player Alfonzo comes in 2nd place, and him and Straw are the only two to have three 6.0+ WAR seasons. Also interesting that Hundley comes out ahead of Gary Carter, Cleon Jones almost finishes ahead of Mike Piazza, and Joe McEwing doesn't make the list.
