Entourage disses the Mets.

Where do I begin...

Star-divide

So.  Now this show is on my shitlist.

Even though they never said anything about baseball before, we all knew that they were from New York.  We all knew that the character Turtle is a Yankees fan.

But now, they have verbally bashed the Mets.

"It's not like the Yankees are in town."
"Yeah, or the Mets."
"...who cares about the Mets?"

I do, you ass.

Sorry, this really made me angry.

Stupid....fictional characters....and there...stupid fictional favorite baseball teams...

Entoutage
is the 3rd or 4th best show on HBO. Who cares about them.
its a ground ball...trickling... its a fair ball, its by Buckner, rounding third Knight, the Mets will win the ballgame, the Mets win!!!

Typical?
From my limited exposure to this show, it is my understanding that Turtle is a untalented, barely-literate slob who is frequently an embarassment to his friends.

Perhaps the writers are commenting on Yankees fans in general.

And aren't "the boys" supposed to be from Queens?

who cares?
It's a silly TV show.  Big deal.  You can always watch Seinfeld reruns if you want the see the Yankees get skewered.

However, if you want some evidence of the respect the Mets command now, check this out:

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/attendance

I know it's early, and these numbers could change, but I don't think the Mets are going to fall very far in the attendance race.  It also can't be a good sign for Steinbrenner and the bouys when the early season returns show attendance has dropped over 4,000 per game.

Driving the Oliver Perez bandwagon!

Attendence
Awesome. Thanks for sharing that link.

Interesting, but
The sample may be skewed by the fact that the Mets just played 3 games at home against their hated divsion rival during what was the first nice weekend of the young season.

Like Entourage But ....
My wife and I were both pissed by this comment.  We had a WTF moment since these guys are supposed to be from Queens.

An important thing to remember - none of the actors and probably none of the writers are from NY so they don't get the distinction.

The writer
is probably a Dodger fan.

Different reaction
The actor who playes turtle is from the Bronx in real life. He refused to wear Mets gear on the show.

I watch the show with 6 or 7 Mets fans each week. We were all happy that Drama is a fan. Probably means that Vince is as well. It is clear that Eric is one.

We were all pumped that the Mets were mentioned.

Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college.

Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loops on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a watch.

"How'd we do it? Mirrors!"
I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.

Now that banner day is back, hopefully this years will look a little like this. I know it's not great, but i don't pretend to be a professional. embiggen!
