Who has been the Mets best pitcher thus far?

Before the season I predicted Ollie would be. He, Glavine and Maine have all been very good, and Sosa has been quite good lately as well. I absolutely love watching Ollie pitch and am very happy that Peterson has been able to turn him around.

As a Tigers fan I would love to see us face him in the World Series, though I'd be scared to face him as well.

What do you all think?

so far?
Maine has to get the nod over Perez and Glavine up to this point in the season, though there's every reason to believe he'll regress significantly over the rest of the year.  I think there's at least some reason to hope that Perez might end the year as the Mets' best pitcher if he continues going on the track he's on right now.  Glavine is a model of consistency, but nowhere near an ace, and any of the young guys who steps up and stays good should be able to wrest the #1 starter's spot (in effect if not in name) from him by the end of the year.  Though it will remain a rotation without a "true ace" it has every chance to be a very good one 1 through 5 over the course of a full year.

source?
Eric, what's your source for these?  I'm always seeking up-to-date sources for the more exotic SABR stats (i.e. beyond the ones ESPN reports) online.

GameScores
You can get game scores in a couple of places. The first (and the freest) is at ESPN.com. Their boxscores always include the gamescore for the starting pitchers, and you can get all of a single pitcher's gamescores via the Game Log link on their profile page. I used Baseball-Reference's inimitable Play Index (baseball-reference.com/pi), which has game logs that can be summed with a couple of mouse clicks, thus auto-calculating the average gamescores instead of having to do them yourself. Of course, if you can't bother to copy the data down accurately (as I did with Pelfrey's average gamescore), then there's not much any site can do to help you.

Pelfrey
That number for Pelfrey can't be right can it?  If his HIGH is only 51, and he has a low of 16, how could his average possibly be 50?  I don't have a way to look them up right now, but surely that number is off.

Pelfrey
Whoops. It should read '40', not '50'.

Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college.

Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loops on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a watch.

"How'd we do it? Mirrors!"
I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.

Now that banner day is back, hopefully this years will look a little like this. I know it's not great, but i don't pretend to be a professional. embiggen!
