How about
the asshole Schilling's comments on Bonds today. I'm generally pretty supportive of Bonds, but even more so now that Schilling is his enemy. He's a piece of shit and a Bush supporter to boot.

i'm with you on Schilling
I think Bonds took roids and I have been consistent  in my for his disgust for him doing that. However I thought that big mouth Curt was out of line for.

a) Talking about Bonds tax and maritial problems.

b) Making thinly veiled half assed comments about the result of the ESPN poll that showed Bonds support being high among African-Americans.

fully agreed on point b
The accusations have clouded Bonds' pursuit of Aaron's record of 755 homers. Aaron has said he will not be in attendance when Bonds attempts to break the record.

"Hank Aaron not being there, the commissioner [Bud Selig] not knowing where he's going to be, it's sad," Schilling told WEEI. "I don't care if he's black, green, purple or yellow or whatever. It's just unfortunate there's good people and bad people."

He's like Stephen Colbert, but without the funny -- "I don't see race."  Popular line among white Republican millionaires.

Then again, I think all the vilification of Barry is just silly when he's surrounded by, presumably, dozens to hundred of steroid abusers who haven't hit the way he did.  But we've been through this before.

Schilling Backtracks
"Everyone has days and events in life they'd love to push the rewind button on, yesterday was one of those days," Schilling wrote on his Web site, 38pitches.com. "Regardless of my opinions, thoughts and beliefs on anything Barry Bonds it was absolutely irresponsible and wrong to say what I did. I don't think it's within anyone's right to say the things I said yesterday and affect other peoples [sic] lives in that way.

"... As someone who's made it very clear I have major issues with members of the media that take little or no pride in their work it's the height of hypocrisy for me to say what I did, in any forum," he wrote. "I started this blog to give people a look into the life we live on and off the field, not to get into back and forths with people I don't like or have issues with. Doing that will only make this a rant filled no content bunch of words.

"... It was a callous, wreckless and irresponsible thing to say, and for that I apologize to Barry, Barry's family, Barry's friends and the Giants organization, my teammates and the Red Sox organization as well as anyone else that may have been offended by the comments I made," he wrote.

Ok, so Shilling's an ass.
You know who else is?  Eric Byrnes.  He was on Faux Sports on Saturday begging Hank Aaron to show up for the record-breaker.  Hank's a bigger and better man than Byrnes will ever be, and Byrnes has some nerve telling Hank what his moral imperatives are.  Clown.

by Mr. Met on May 8, 2007 10:28 PM EDT reply actions

Byrnes
"Clown" is becoming too weak a term of opprobrium for EB -- I vote for "douche" as its replacement.  The idea of Byrnes as an "analyst" or "commentator" or whatever is completely absurd.  Who would want his opinion on anything, whether it's hitting, fielding, politics, or hairstyling?

An ass clown sounds like something it might be entertaining to watch from time to time, whereas Byrnes makes me want to turn the TV off and swallow the remote to prevent accidental re-ignition.  "Ass monkey" might work, though.

good point
Byrnes and Schilling are  cut out of the same big mouth cloth. Hank Aaron is smart not to go and have to face all the questions  about his feelings about Bonds.I don't think that Henry is doing this out of disrespect for Bonds. He's a true class act and the second best player I've ever seen next to Bonds. By the way the media wants to turn this into a racial, OJ Simpson-like divisive issue.

lets be honest
The entire coverage of Bonds over the years, since he was a Skinny kid a Pittsburgh has had this racial undercurrent to it. It's finally out on the table too. It just coming to the table now. This is one of the reasons that a lot of the coverage of Lastings Milledge sent me into absolute hives.

Exactly My Point
Roger Clemens and Randy Johnson are known as a grade A assholes. But their good at what they do so he's allowed and people let them be for the most part. Why not the same treatment for Bonds and others(Sheffield). The media has very little tolerance for surly black athletes. If your not pleasant all the time they find ways to diminish you. Even the coverage of Griffey has been negatively over the last few years as he grew out of being a affable "Kid" and into his middle age.

my $.02
While I'm not denying that the "surly black athlete" affect has something to do with the venom directed at Bonds, I think the primary reason he is so villified is that he's a known juicer who is about to break the holiest of holy sports records.

Mark McGwire may never make the Hall of Fame because he was juicing when he hit his 70 HRs, and he's a white guy who was generally cordial with the media.

Anyway, the athlete I despise more than any is a big fat, egomaniacal, roid-raging white guy who just signed with the Yankees in a spectacle that would have made Kim Jong Il proud.  I don't care for Bonds, but I've got better things to do than dwell on him.

Giambi and Sheffield have gotten a free pass. So no racial element there. Actually, I might despise Sheffield most of all, but not for using steroids but for admitting to purposely committing errors to get out of Milwaukee. I think he should have been kicked out of baseball for that.

Sheffield
got a kind free pass because he wasn't breaking hallowed records, and was overshadowed by Giambi and Bonds involvement in that BALCO scandal. Some of the other coverage of Sheffield on other matters has been incredibly harsh. You mention the Milkwakee situation, they misdiagnosed his broken foot for a whole year and made him play with it and subjected him to excess scrutiny in drug testing because of the actions of his uncle, his teammates were also extraordinarily cruel to him has a 19 year old coming up to take a popular player spot on the team. Not excusing his actions but it didn't come in a vacumm. Wow I just wrote a paragraph defending Gary Sheffield.

2013 ALL-STAR GAME(TM) LOGO CONTEST

Major League Baseball has formally announced that Citi Field will be the site of the 2013 All-Star Game. (see video) In light of this, I have decided to launch an All-Star Game logo contest. To help get you started, I provided all of you with a sample All-Star Game logo. (click here to embiggen) If you wish to participate, please enter your submission with an image below, in the comments section. The contest ends on May 31st. I will choose a select number of finalists, and the community will vote on which of those logos is the best one.

Can you create a better logo than the sample logo provided? Then, give it a shot. Good luck to all participants!
Jon Rauch is awesome. Dan Tanna is, obviously, a fan of Greg Pomes.

By the way, I need some help here - is there any way to make this gif go faster? The "Let's" and "Go" sequences are only supposed to be 500 milliseconds each, and "Mets" a full second. Instead, each sequence is at least a full 1000 milliseconds (1 second) longer than it should be.
The first picture of a not devastated Tom Glavine after Game 162 of 2007 has finally been released.
