Best Replica Jerseys?

So I'm looking to get a replica jersey but want a good one.  One that doesn't look campy.  And one that I can find online as I live in Colorado. :-)

Star-divide

I just got tickets for behind the plate for the Rockies-Mets game on July 2nd.  I think I want a new Mets jersey with Reyes or Wright on it.  Anyone want  to share a positive or negative story about online replica jersey sales?  Where are the best ones?

Go Mets!

From what I can tell at the ballpark...
all replicas look a little campy on purpose.

If you're not willing to shell out a couple of hundred bucks for the "real thing," you'll get plain blue lettering on the back of a dull gray shirt, or a black shirt with white lettering.  And those all seem to be around 100 bucks.

Myself, I'd just go with a T-shirt.

Or better yet, a ball cap.

Ebay
I bought an authentic David Wright jersey (the home alternate) for <$50 on ebay, brand new.  If you look enough, you'll be able to find one easily.  I was skeptical but this is definitely authentic.  Here's a link, if you want to see what I'm talking about:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=009&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewite m=&item=190103069617&rd=1&rd=1

My only complaint is that I'm not familiar with Jersey sizing, and I'm a relatively small guy (6'0, 160), and this thing is pretty big on me...but I can't complain..

Whoa
Wow, yer not kidding.  That's amazing.  They have to be off a truck, Sopranos style, no?

How did you like yours?  Good as gold?

I like it alot
The size really bugs me, because I don't like my stuff to fit baggy, but I've looked around and it's pretty much impossible to find a jersey that fits me "well".  They come in as low as a 40 but that's basically impossible to find in a non-replica type.

As for off the truck...if it is, I really don't care.  It is good, everything is nicely sewn on, it looks just like the one in stores, so I have no complaints.

Also, finding the pinstriped home jersey is tough to find for anything much less than regular price.  My next purchase will be a Reyes of that type though, regardless.

OK
I'll buy one and see what happens...I'm thinking the Reyes black jersey.  Or blue.  Bluuue?

Wear your Kaz Matsui jersey
"He even tried to pimp it," Floyd said. "He's got no pimp." Said Wright: "I don't even know what that means."

dude
There was someone wearing an Authentic Kaz jersey on Saturday in Section 23 in the Upper Deck, first row.

What a bad investment.

But once you've paid for it
You've gotta get some use out of it.

cf. the Mariners and Jeff Weaver.

Cry me a river for my Robby Alomar jersey.
Watch me paste this pathetic palooka with a powerful paralyzing perfect pachydermous percussion pitch.

by Mr. Met on Jun 6, 2007 2:38 PM EDT up reply actions

here's how to fix that one
  1. Get a roll of white gaffer's tape.
  2. Get a fat blue Sharpie.
  3. Cut a strip of the tape and use it to cover over the "Alomar" name on the back of the jersey.
  4. Take the Sharpie and write "Randolph" on the tape.

Hmmm...
That sounds like the jersey on eBay.  It's authentic exactly except for the duct tape over the name............

Who the hell ever owned a Manager's jersey?  I mean, Willie did play a year for the Mets a long while back, right?  Is he any different than Alomar or Matsui in terms of regret? :-)

oh, and while we're on the topic of jerseys
At Shea last year I saw the most bitter Authentic Jersey ever. The name on the back:

KAZMIR

I am not making this up.

niiice.
I fully support mournful alternate-history jerseys.  Much more enjoyable than the usual round of Bonillas, Vaughns, Alomars or what have you, for players that just didn't perform well enough to merit merchandising.

Maybe a follow-up with a Sidd Finch jersey would also be an appropriate fantasy?

by anonymous on Jun 6, 2007 3:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Actually, I thought of that once.
I'm not a jersey-wearing guy, but I figured that if I ever were to shell out for an "authentic" one, I might as well incorporate the Sidd Finch legend.

A nice '86-style pullover uni with

FINCH
  21

on the back would suit the baseball lover in me and show others in the upper deck that I know my literature.

Yeah
that's a pretty cool idea

This is a brillant idea
Finch, a fictional character, represents the  whimsical aspects of the Mets and their history better than any flesh and blood player ever could.

You're only legit
if you wear a jersey of a player that only a fellow hardcore mets fan would know.

I like my Feliciano jersey just fine.

When asked why I was a Mets fan, I responded, "pain is my lifeblood."

Finch
That's a pretty sweet idea.

A classic...
At a number of games in both DC and at Shea I have seen a dude wearing a Rico Brogna jersey.  I give him a solid 2 thumbs up for authenticity.

Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college.

Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loop on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a viewing.

"How'd we do it? Mirrors!"
I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.
