Go Tommy, Go Mets!
I'm watching all the games available to me and with you guys in spirit -- just not able to post much.

Strong is the Max mojo. Let's sweep these Phils!

me too
Right now I have neither a computer nor cable at home, so I spend most nights in the company of Howie Rose and Tom McCarthy.  It's like the stone ages, I know.  What would I do without a radio?

I miss the in-game chatter here, but I hope to be back soon.

I'm leaving work now.  Let's go Mets!

We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!

I say
We need to ram these guys into something hard... Go mets!

It's hard for me to root against Jamie Moyer
But so it goes.

Also, way to go DDub!

But I can't help complaining a little from time to time.  Old reflexes from the 90s-2000s teams.

Quite the crappy AB by BJ

and it meant we lost a run
Gomez's fly might have scored Lo Duca from third, and Glavine's single (obviously) removes all doubt.  Not to whinge too much, but Endy or even Easley (+ Gotay at 2B) is a better choice to start games while Alou and Green are still out.

I think that Wright and Ruiz
inadvertantently created a new sex position.

I don't agree with
Sandy Alomar holding Lo Duca at third. There are two outs; just go for it. Your pitcher just got a 2-out hit with a RISP; take advantage of it! Sure, the throw would have beaten Duke to the plate, but he could try to plow Ruiz over.

But maybe Alomar's thinking, Glavine just got a hit, the hard part's over.

by Mr. Met on Jun 5, 2007 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, I know
I just hate seeing the runner at second being held on a 2-out hit. The chance holding him, and then picking up the RBI hit in the next AB, are slim to none.

by TheFlushingKings on Jun 5, 2007 7:53 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't agree with that at all.
Sorry, dude.  Reyes has shown a great propensity over his career to knock runners in, just not in the last couple of weeks.  His chances are far from "slim to none".  He also could walk, and let Easley get a shot, or induce a wild pitch, or an error on a fielder to score a run.  There are 3 outs to an inning, not 2.  Discretion is the better part of valor if the 3B coach thinks the runner will be thrown out at home.

by Mr. Met on Jun 5, 2007 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions

agreed
What chafed there was Johnson's inability to even get the runner over, not Sandy holding him after Glavine's single.  You send the guy with 2 outs IF a weak hitter is due up.  Reyes is not a weak hitter.

Mets are about even
since the injuries hit and that's real good considering the inconsistency of the rest of the line-up. The pitching has really picked up the offense this year. I know that the Mets have good team offensive stats, but they still don't seem to be clicking.

Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college.

Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loop on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a viewing.

"How'd we do it? Mirrors!"
I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.

Now that banner day is back, hopefully this years will look a little like this. I know it's not great, but i don't pretend to be a professional. embiggen!
