Open Thread - Game 123: Mets vs. Nationals (08/19/2007) on CW11

Source: mlb.com

Tale of the tape:

Hernandez Hill
ERA 3.12 2.41
FIP 4.30 3.41
K/9 7.91 6.43
BB/9 3.56 2.73
K/BB 2.22 2.35
HR/9 1.09 0.32
WHIP 1.10 0.98
GB/FB 0.84 2.11
BABIP .230 .234
eBABIP .241 .258

Que se dillio:

Orlando Hernandez did his best Livan Hernandez impression by tossing 130 pitches last week against Pittsburgh. He hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in any of his last four starts but has only a single win and three no-decisions to show for it. Meanwhile, Shawn Hill is making just his second start after three months on the disabled list. He held the Phillies to one hit over six innings last week and he beat the Mets back in April in his only career start against them.

The other side of the tracks:

So
Any word on who's replacing Easley? I haven't been checking the usual sources yet

i'm sorry but i really just can't stand him.  there has to be someone else they could have called up.

Yeah
What's the deal with Fernando Tatis anyway? I haven't checked his splits or anything but wouldn't he be a better option at this point?

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 19, 2007 1:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Besides
Easley could play a number of different positions, you don't quite get that flexibility with A-Hern

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 19, 2007 1:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Hernandez
probably can play in 2b,SS,3B and he or Gotay probably could learn to play some OF in a pinch. Plus the Mets have a lot of positional flexibility as it is.

Good points

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 19, 2007 1:54 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree on Tatis
Easley most important role was right hander off the bench, Tatis can hit lefties, AHern hits no one.

I'm at work
So I get to deal with gameday. Maybe it's a good thing I miss out on the out of town announcers

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 19, 2007 1:38 PM EDT up reply actions

haha
Gameday shows Chris Young stealing home against Smoltz. It might have been a double steal, though.

by citimetro on Aug 19, 2007 1:55 PM EDT reply actions

what?
"Zimmerman singles on a popup to 1b Green"? How do you single on a pop up? Was Green working his defensive magic again?

by citimetro on Aug 19, 2007 2:31 PM EDT reply actions

it was in the Bermuda Triangle
and not hit very high. No one had a shot at it.

whoa
Santana is lambasting Texas right now. 9 up, 9 down, 7 K.

by citimetro on Aug 19, 2007 2:51 PM EDT reply actions

Pretty damn dominant
Make that 12 up 12 down, 9 k now

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 19, 2007 2:59 PM EDT up reply actions

no no-no
"Corky" Sosa dinked a single. Still a lotta Ks, though.

by citimetro on Aug 19, 2007 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Santana
Up to 14 k's, 2 hits thru 7 inn

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 19, 2007 3:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Wow
Strikes out the side in the 8th, 17 k's

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 19, 2007 4:13 PM EDT up reply actions

millwood
Tough beat for Millwood. He pitched a good game, just picked the worng day to do it.

by citimetro on Aug 19, 2007 4:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Definitely
And Nathan allowed a guy to reach second in the 9th with one out before getting it done. It happens. Tough call to go to the closer when your starter pitches that amazing but Johan was at 112 or 117 pitches i think.

nice duque
7 strong innings.  109 pitches ... hope they bring him back out for the 8th.

by metsexile on Aug 19, 2007 3:28 PM EDT reply actions

like him more and more
I was ambivalent abt castillo ... but i like him more and more.  he makes things happen ... even if he is 'slap-happy.'

me too

me as well
No complaints with him so far. Also easy to see why he was a fan favorite in Minnesota when he was only there for a season and a half and why Johan badmouthed the front office for trading him. He does all the little things right

by The Irresistable Force on Aug 19, 2007 3:55 PM EDT up reply actions

energy
He does have a lot of it.

He went relatively cheap, too. I wonder what the back story is between him and Santana.

by citimetro on Aug 19, 2007 4:27 PM EDT up reply actions

nice one Green!

Sweep!
It's nice to see them put a team away in the final game of the series, they haven't done much of that lately.

2013 ALL-STAR GAME(TM) LOGO CONTEST

Major League Baseball has formally announced that Citi Field will be the site of the 2013 All-Star Game. (see video) In light of this, I have decided to launch an All-Star Game logo contest. To help get you started, I provided all of you with a sample All-Star Game logo. (click here to embiggen) If you wish to participate, please enter your submission with an image below, in the comments section. The contest ends on May 31st. I will choose a select number of finalists, and the community will vote on which of those logos is the best one.

Can you create a better logo than the sample logo provided? Then, give it a shot. Good luck to all participants!
Jon Rauch is awesome. Dan Tanna is, obviously, a fan of Greg Pomes.
LET'S GO METS GIF

By the way, I need some help here - is there any way to make this gif go faster? The "Let's" and "Go" sequences are only supposed to be 500 milliseconds each, and "Mets" a full second. Instead, each sequence is at least a full 1000 milliseconds (1 second) longer than it should be.
The first picture of a not devastated Tom Glavine after Game 162 of 2007 has finally been released.

(This is an old and kind of out of left field reference, but hey, we're playing the Marlins right now and John Maine just got released, so it's sort of relevant, plus I spent approximately 6.5 minutes making it and felt like I had to share.)
The reaction at Harrenhal Castle, payback was swift today!
