Since there still isn't much going on and I can only cram so many "Best X of Y" posts into a single week, I thought it'd be fun to get to know each other a little better. We're on here every day chatting away about the Mets and other baseball whatnots, but this'll be an opportunity to learn a bit more about each other.

Here are the questions. Nothing terrible, but feel free to skip any that you just don't feel like answering. My answers are below.

How old are you?

29

Where do you call home?

Wyckoff, New Jersey

Who is responsible for your Met fandom?

My dad. He was a Giants fan growing up until the Giants up and left for San Francisco. He already hated the Yankees, so when the Mets arrived in 1962 they was a natural fit.

Favorite movie?

Tie. Fight Club and Brazil. For the former, I loved the Chuck Palahniuk novel (plus much of his other work, Survivor and Invisible Monsters in particular), but David Fincher's transformation of it for the big screen was equal parts stunning and disturbing. As for Brazil, Terry Gilliam is a god amongst men.

First concert?

Bon Jovi/Skid Row at Giants Stadium, 1989.

Your turn.

My Grandmother, I can remember being a little tyke, sitting on her lap helping her do word searches, while watching the Mets.

Favorite movie?

Big movie buff, hard to pick one, but the Big Lebowski never fails to make me laugh.

First concert?

Garth Brooks in Albany. not a fan, but a friend had an extra ticket so I figured what the hell.

Where do you call home?

Brooklyn, NY (Greenpoint section)

Who is responsible for your Met fandom?

Mostly my father, although my mother's side of the family (particularly my formerly Brooklyn Dodgers-loving grandmother) are big Mets fans.

Thanks to retrosheet, I was able to figure out that the first game my dad ever took me to was Dwight Gooden's 20th win in 1985, when I was 5 years old.

Favorite movie?

Goodfellas

First concert?

Red Hot Chili Peppers, MSG, 1995.

How old are you?
Just turned 30.

Where do you call home?
New York, New York

Who is responsible for your Met fandom?
Mostly my family. And the 1986 Mets team, since I was eight years old then, and eight is the prime age for really starting to understand and appreciate the game.  Ah, to be eight again...

Favorite movie?
The Godfather and Reservoir Dogs (tie)

First concert?
The Spin Doctors (ugh) at Fordham University in the fall of 1992 (roughly).

How old are you?

25

Where do you call home?

Minneapolis, MN (San Diego, CA is my home town)

Who is responsible for your Met fandom?

My dad and my uncle, I grew up eating peanuts on the couch with my uncle watching Mets games.

Favorite movie?

I'm not sure. I've watched Emperor's New Groove a shit-load of times.

First concert?

Sadly, I saw Fastball live at some outdoor concert at the Taste of Minnesota. I don't know if my first "real concert" was Weezer at Mellon Arena.

East Harlem, NYC. (Originally from the shoreline of CT.)

Who is responsible for your Met fandom?

My father--an LA Dodgers fan by upbringing, but he thought it was important to pull for the local NL team. My first live game was seeing the '86 Mets against the Reds.

Favorite movie?

Anchorman. (So much for all those film studies classes...)

First concert?

They Might Be Giants, Toad's Place (New Haven.) Can't remember the year... seventh grade for me, I think.

Washington, D.C. (recently from Philly, grew up outside Norfolk, VA)

My entire family were Mets fans in the 80's.  My aunt still can't forgive the Mets for cutting Gary Carter and Keith Hernandez in '89.

Movie:  Probably "About a Boy".  I wish "High Fidelity" had been half as good.

First Concert:  They Might Be Giants, Squires Student Center, Virginia Tech Campus, Fall 1993.

high fidelity is actually one of my favorite movies but i've never seen about a boy.  i've read and loved both books (as im sure you have too).  they are both great.  i'll have to check out about a boy sometime soon

High Fidelity
I was disappointed by it unfortunately.  I love John Cusack but it just wasn't right and I think part of it was changing the setting from the U.K. to Chicago.  Hornsby's humor and characters seem to work better in their native setting.

About a Boy is just excellent.  It'll really make you not mind Hugh Grant.  It's an almost perfect retelling of the book.

about a boy
haha hugh grant is exactly what was holding me back from seeing the movie.  i agree with you about changing the setting from UK to Chicago but the studios had to do something to make american viewers want to see it

It used to be a guilty pleasure, a movie my wife liked that I would enjoy watching, under the presumption that it was actually bad.

But it's actually good.

How old are you?

Where do you call home?

Littleton, Colorado

Who is responsible for your Met fandom?

My dad and brother, who were over-the-top, pompous Yankee fans.  So, I became a Mets fan in 1985 and got the first laugh the next year.

Favorite movie?

Run Lola Run, though it is fading since I've seen it wayyyyyyyyyyy too many times.  I just love the movie themes of destiny and freakish red head...running.

First concert?

Great White & Badlands, some time in the 80's.  I only went because my metal-head cousin needed someone to go with him and it was either me, or his dad -- so he begged me to come with him.  I did.  Then we spent most of the concert apart because he was a troubled kid and left me alone to the horrible tunes.

Funny, I like hard rock now...but I despised it then. (And frankly, still despise 80's metal.)

how web 2.0
age: 26

de donde: raised in north jersey, live in arlington, va

inspiration: my dad as well.  he grew up an O's fan and hated the yankees, so mets were my only choice.  gaining sentience in the mid 80's made it that much easier.

movie: tough to pick one, i alternate rewatching Goodfellas and Night at the Roxbury in my VHS player when i can't fall asleep.

1st concert:  thats a tough one.  probably pitch shifter and gravity kills in old bridge in 97 or 98, whenever it was that my friend got his license.  those metals days were awesome.  anyone else listen to WSOU back then?

only been a couple times
but one of my all time favorite memories from any concert ever was seeing this absolutely god awful metal band called Cold open for like, Pitchshifter and Gravity Kills or some ridiculous set, and they were so bad at one point it was dead quiet and someone just screams YOU SUCK loud enough for everyone to hear and the lead singer deadpans right back "that was out number one fan." at another point they finish a song and no one notices and the lead singer just says "thank you very little."

holy crap they sucked.  i dont know why i find that still so hilarious. anyways.

Who is responsible for your Met fandom?

My folks. My Dad is a big Dodger fan (they moved when he was 12--he wasn't letting go). My Mom's the Met fan, and while she isn't as big a baseball fan as Dad, the Mets won the war for my affection. The one thing that was guaranteed was that I'd hate the Yankees.

Favorite movie?

Tough one. Love Magnolia. It isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I love its ambition, its operatic feel, its messages, even the moment with the frogs. Other favorites include The Seventh Seal, The Princess Bride, and The Nightmare before Christmas. I'm forgetting a ton, but that's what I can think of right now.

First concert?

Even tougher. I didn't get into rock until I was older; my first love was classical music (another legacy from my dad). My first concert was Creed back in like '00, dragged along by my cousin because one of his friends dropped out. First concert I paid to see? Maybe Reel Big Fish, or something like that, back in Spring '02 or so, but I'm not 100% sure.

Where do you call home?

San Diego, CA, but I now live near Princeton, NJ. I've been to many Padres games, and I still root for them whenever they're not facing the Mets.

Who is responsible for your Met fandom?

My dad; my name; the 1986 Mets. He grew up in New York, hated the Yankees and was a Brooklyn Dodgers fan. However, he disowned the Dodgers when they moved to L.A. and later became a Met fan. My last name has -metz in it, so being a Met fan is kind of a no-brainer. Really. The 1986 Mets team and baseball in general helped me get through a tough year of college.

Favorite movie?

This is tough, as I enjoy several different genres, so I don't really have a favorite. As a family comedy, I like "Liar, Liar." Makes me laugh every time.

23

Where do you call home?

Aurora, Illinois.  Home of Wayne's world.  Born and raised in the Bronx though, Morris park area.

Who is responsible for your Met fandom?

My dad and my neighborhood.  My dad was always a Mets fan, and I knew at least 5 people who lived or worked nearby who worked for the Mets, so I don't think we ever paid to go to a game.  The guy who owned the candy store on the corner catered them, he was our main hookup.  Also lived down the street from Joe Greco, the former clubhouse manager (think his son did that gig for a while too), and he hooked us up with tickets pretty often as well.

Favorite movie?

The Godfather Parts 1 and 2

First concert?

Green Day at the Target Center in Minneapolis, 11/10/04.  I don't remember who else played because we drove 7 hours from Bismarck, ND to get there, and got there about 5 minutes before Green Day came on.  They were the main ones we went to see anyway though so it was good.

2013 ALL-STAR GAME(TM) LOGO CONTEST

Major League Baseball has formally announced that Citi Field will be the site of the 2013 All-Star Game. (see video) In light of this, I have decided to launch an All-Star Game logo contest. To help get you started, I provided all of you with a sample All-Star Game logo. (click here to embiggen) If you wish to participate, please enter your submission with an image below, in the comments section. The contest ends on May 31st. I will choose a select number of finalists, and the community will vote on which of those logos is the best one.

Can you create a better logo than the sample logo provided? Then, give it a shot. Good luck to all participants!
Jon Rauch is awesome. Dan Tanna is, obviously, a fan of Greg Pomes.
LET'S GO METS GIF

By the way, I need some help here - is there any way to make this gif go faster? The "Let's" and "Go" sequences are only supposed to be 500 milliseconds each, and "Mets" a full second. Instead, each sequence is at least a full 1000 milliseconds (1 second) longer than it should be.
The first picture of a not devastated Tom Glavine after Game 162 of 2007 has finally been released.

(This is an old and kind of out of left field reference, but hey, we're playing the Marlins right now and John Maine just got released, so it's sort of relevant, plus I spent approximately 6.5 minutes making it and felt like I had to share.)
The reaction at Harrenhal Castle, payback was swift today!
