In the midst of a rambling article John Harper has this nugget:

"OK, so here's a thought: Any chance the Phillies would take Carlos Beltran even up for Shane Victorino? "

I was going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he was being facetious. But based on the way he blows Victorino, I think he's serious.

So to answer the question: A. Of course the Phillies would make that deal. A brain dead monkey would make that and deal, and B. (to steal directly form Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers) REALLY? Trading Beltran for Victorino? This is your solution to the Mets problems? REALLY?

Yes, the Phillies would take it.

Assuming Ed Wade could speak enough to accept in between paroxysms of laughter. How stupid do you have to be to suggest that kind of trade? Do you get your head stuck in a pickle jar? Do you almost forget to breathe? That is such a stupidly one-sided trade Selig’s office might actually reject it and send it back to Omar. I mean, holy shit, the Daily News actually pays sports columnists to be this stupid?

D'oh!!

You know, I suppose I should have checked my information. Ed Wade was fired as Phillies’ GM in 2005. It’s Pat Gillick. Stupid internets, proving me wrong.

Wow

I thought this link was going to be to a Philly paper . . . just . . . wow. It’s like hack-o-rama in the City these days when it comes to the Mets. Ugh. Maybe this is our trade-off for having the best teevee booth in the business.

'Catsmeat!' he cried. 'I see it all. It was that chump, Catsmeat.'

Wait

you know, i think he was playing on the fact that phillies fans are currently going ape s—- over victorino. But he doesn’t say phillies “fans,” he says phillies. Having said that, he is a nice little player, but has anyone else noticed he’s kind of a little bitch?

(j/k, of course you have)

trade proposal

Do you think the Daily News would trade John Harper for Roger Angell, straight up?
