Renaming Citi Field?
With Citigroup circling the drain, it seems like a good time to ask if maybe the company has a more productive use of $400 million than naming rights to a baseball field. And now, a couple of City Council members want to force a name change on the field to reflect the company's 'new ownership'.
Staten Island Council members James Oddo and Vincent Ignizio are saying that Citi Field ought to be renamed Citi/Taxpayer Field, since Citi is now being thrown a multi-billion dollar lifeline from the Treasury Department. Nice bit of grandstanding, but it'll never happen. Now how about the Council get back to work fixing the budget deficit?

I'm all for a different name
but “Citi/Taxpayer Field” is a terrible name. Those Staten Island guys are probably Yankee fans who want the Mets’ stadium to have a stupid name.
"Vincent Ignizio"
that screams Yankee fan. jesus.
I'm sticking with

'Catsmeat!' he cried. 'I see it all. It was that chump, Catsmeat.'

City / Taxpayer Field just sounds so stupid
It doesn’t roll off of the tongue very well.
The New York City council members who came up with this idea should have taken a moment to actually "think" about what they were going to propose.
It’s incredibly difficult to amend a name to a field / ballpark with a name that encompasses all taxpayers throughout the country. However, I’ve come up with my own way to amend the naming of the METS new ballpark while recognizing taxpayer support and maintaining some local pride and respect to the city and sponsor.
How about: " Queens Citi Field" or "Queens Citi Ballpark"
I know this is an incredibly superficial comment for such a serious problem. But, it’s the day before Thanksgiving and I’m in a mood to celebrate life and give thanks…I’m not in the mood to be cerebral.

I guarantee you, those old crusty sum bitches are saying: “Over my bailed out body will we "not” have out name mentioned!"

When you're not embarrassed enough to be a METS fan, just read the following quote by Mr. Wilpon. Oy Wey!
“I understand where they’re coming from. I understand that there’s some upset-ness in the marketplace,” Wilpon said. “But we don’t agree with it.”
Upset-ness? Hey Wilpon! There may be kids reading this!
