Huston Street
Over at Metsblog there is a post claiming that Omar offered Heilman straight up to Colorado for Huston Street. Colorado countered by asking for Feliciano as well, which Omar balked at, furthering my suspicion that he would have been a much better GM in the deadball era (you know, before bullpens were important).
Anyway, some of the folks on the comments thread over there have been talking about Street's very bad save rate (~75% for his career) and saying they don't want him. Others are saying that his numbers have been declining and/or fluky, and they don't want him. I for the life of me can't figure this out, and also can't figure out why Oakland and Colorado seem so eager to dump him. Take a look at the following numbers (sorry they aren't formatted better, I'm slightly computertarded):
WHIP:
05: 1.009
06: 1.090
07: 0.940
08: 1.214
K/9:
05: 8.27
06: 8.53
07: 11.34
08: 8.87
K/BB:
05: 2.77
06: 5.15
07: 5.25
08: 2.56
ERA:
05: 1.72
06: 3.31
07: 2.88
08: 3.73
His first 3 seasons were fantastic, this past season was merely good. He still would have been the best pitcher in our bullpen by a wide margin once Wagner went down. And his '06 and '07 seasons rivaled Wagner: he was better in K/BB and WHIP, but worse in K/9 and ERA. I can't see any reason not to trade Heilman and Feliciano for Street (heck, I'd even throw in some collectible Shea Toilets). I know Street's like 14 years younger than the age-range Omar normally looks for, but if that really is all the Rockies are asking for, I think you have to make that deal. What do you all think?

Yes
I don’t see how Omar would gladly trade Heilman but balk at Feliciano. I don’t think Street is anything fantastic at this point, but he’s still young and if he can get his walk rate down to pre-2008 levels he can be a very productive reliever.

Agreed
I saw that rumor on RotoWorld, but if the source is Metsblog then that explains its lack of credibility. I am skeptical that anything like this actually happened — I think even Omar Minaya is smart enough to make that deal.

Yeah, I dunno
I have to figure that either the rumor is fake or, if it’s true, there’s some persistent injury issue with Street that we’re not aware of.

To add
BB9 xFIP
05 2.99 3.69
06 1.66 3.74
07 2.16 2.86
08 3.47 3.74
I agree with everyone else, I don’t really believe the rumor as I can’t see Felicano, as much as I like him, holding this up. As shown by his xFIP, HR normalizing fielding independent pitching, Street has been pretty very consistant with his shortened 07 being the outlier, still he’s not as outstanding as his former closer pedirgree might make him out to be, which I think everyone at this side of the internet already knows.
So, yeah, I would trade for him if that was the package, but I would think it would cost more and I wouldn’t give up too much more for him.

Interesting
I’ve gotta believe that Omar would have pulled the trigger.

Excellent post
I like Heilman and Feliciano, but I’d be pretty annoyed if it turned out that Minaya actually turned down this trade.
