ESPN - Jayson Stark: New York Mets now have an amazin' bullpen
This should crystallize how huge this trade was for this team. Here is the crux of the article:
* If all games had ended after six innings this season, the Mets would have finished the year 11 games ahead of the Phillies (aka, the team that won the World Series).
* If all games had ended after seven innings, the Mets would have finished six games ahead of the Phillies.
* And if all games had even been just eight innings long instead of nine, the Mets would have finished five games ahead of the Phillies.

I understand Stark's point and all, but
I generally defer to the principle of “if my auntie had a dick, she’d be my uncle” in these situations.
That said, I am looking forward to seeing what our new boys will do for this team. This is a good start to the off-season.
'Oh yes, I know all about that duty-of-a-citizen stuff. It doesn't go. There are exceptions to every rule, and this was one of them. When a man risks his liberty to come and root at a ball-game, you've got to hand it to him. He isn't a crook. He's a fan.'
