Lots of money

$240 million plus for Sabathia and Burnett.

injury risks

Would be interesting to know what kind of insurance against injuries these contracts carry. A couple years ago there was a lot of talk that it was becoming difficult to insure contracts for any longer than three years — if so, the Yanks are an elbow ligament away from really compromising their finances for a long while.

It's probably even

tougher to get insurance now, with the industry in the crapper.

I suppose

if they’ve got the money they might as well use it. This, though, is the kind of stuff that got them into trouble the past few seasons.

Who's world is it? It's yours.

I thought CC's contract was decent. A lot of money but he'll likely be worth it.

I don’t expect Burnett to be close to being worth this contract. I’m not sure I expect him to last 10 starts after throwing all those innings last year.

As one of my Yankee fan friends said

“This is the contract that Cashman will be judged by” It’s a huge risk, and I don’t see it paying off.
