Braves set to acquire Vasquez
Looks like we're about to lose out on Javier Vasquez. Atlanta is said to be giving up Brent Lillibridge and 3 so far unnamed players. I guess Castillo wasn't an attractive enough offer for Kenny Williams.

need i say more after 2 straight September collapses? Omar did the right thing
not worth $11 mil and not worth the prospects, he’ll be decent in the low pressure Atlanta in a pitchers park, but thats about all he’s worth

I disagree
Looking at a few starts to determine the value of a pitcher is kind of dumb. But, if you wanted to, you would notice that career-wise, the month(s) of September/October have been his best.
Not, the White Sox probably got a good deal for him, but I would much rather have him on the Mets than Braves. He’s a good pitcher.

It was kind of a terrible deal
For the White Sox based on the package that’s been reported. Vazquez is a much better pitcher than his record and ERA show.

Kenny Williams is 2-for-2, then
The Swisher deal was astonishingly bad for the White Sox.

If there’s one man alive who consistently makes me grateful for Omar Minaya, it’s definitely Ken Williams. (If there are two, Brian Sabean.)
Yeah, this looks to be a good deal for the Braves. Not enough to catapult them back into contention, I think, but a good deal that should shore up their starting rotation for several years.

Braves
If they can land Lowe or somehow trade for Peavy, although I’m not sure how likely that is since I don’t see any way they can trade Escobar now, then I’d start to worry. Their offense wasn’t that bad last year, although it’s probably skewed by having Tex for half the year, and they have a lot of young outfielders that could fill holes there. Pitching was by far their biggest problem last year I believe.

It wasn't awful
Jurrjens, Campillo, and Hudson were all decent. But they needed another starter, and Vazquez is dependable.

The Red Sox also signed Dustin Pedroia to a 6-year, $40.5 million extension.

And he'll scrap for every one of those 40.5 million dollars.
Cos he’s a scrapper. A true gamer’s grinder.

As much as I love to make fun of Pedroia and the ridiculous media love...
a 2B who OPS+es 112 for $6.75M/year is pretty great, considering we’re paying Luis Castillo $6.25M/year to OPS+ 77 (or even if you compare it to his career OPS+ 93). That deal is every bit as smart for the Red Sox as the below-market deals the Mets gave to Wright and Reyes (or the Rays gave to Longoria).
