Ugh
After being placed on waivers a couple of days ago, Ruben Gotay was claimed by the Braves today. And bang your head against the wall.... now.

Well
Plus Gotay is already better than Castillo offensively. Everyone thinks Gotay was a one season wonder but he was once one of the best prospects in baseball and was horribly rushed by the Royals and it stunted his development.
Now he's a Brave. Fucking hell.

Omar
Tatis played second base for two innings in 2006. Must have been a spectacular two innings.
Fucking Omar.

WONDERFUL!
He was let go in favor of and given less PA's (yes, injury, I know) in spring than 25 year old AA minor leaguer Argenis Reyes (who had a nice spring, but seems to have problems OPSing over 700 in a full season), 25 year old Anderson Hernandez (who, while I love him, is a joke. One of those unpredictable kinds, you don't know if you're going to be staring at it afterwards because it's so pathetic, or if you're going to be laughing so hard because it's so damn funny.), 32 year old Fernando Tatis (who has barely even been a useful player in the bigs this century, depending what you call useful), 32 year old slapper Luis Castillo (who many, including I, who believe Gotay should've been put in there for last season), and, he of the .205 September BA, Jose Reyes. Yeah, I went there. I'm that pissed.
Who the hell gets to keep his roster spot on this team? Veterans and Reyes and Wright? Few opportunities, do well in them, time to pack your bags!
"I thought I did a good job last year. I didn't think I deserved this," the 25-year-old Gotay said with tears in his eyes as he sat in front of his locker.
Good job, "management"

So wht your saying is
You're more upset with the practice off letting young players leave, more than just the fact that Ruben Gotay isn't here anymore? I get that, but again I would be willing to bet that Gotay isn't making any all star teams.
It's time someone put their foot down... and that foot is me.

So?
You're missing the point. It doesn't matter that he won't make any all-star teams. A useful, hard-working player was dumped because the Mets front office values experience over talent and potential. It didn't start with Gotay and sadly I don't think it'll end with him. This team isn't constructed to win a championship, but rather, it's constructed to keep everyone's feelings and the integrity of the game in tact. I'm definitely willing to admit that due to some moves made that this team isn't going to win squat: it isn't a team. Maybe I'm the only person who feels that way, but I'll stick by it until the Mets can prove me wrong.

i agree, its BS
i cant imagine fernando tatis being a better addition to the bench then gotay. i think it sucks we lost him for nothing and think it sucks more that gotay is nwo a stupid stupid brave. i just cant get THAT worked up about guy who's projecting to be only marginally above bench for the next few years. i feel like omar et al took a chance on this guy clearing waivers and it obviously backfired, shit happens. at the same time, i see your point about the front office's disturbing trend of favoring experience over youth and potential and am likewise distressed over the development.
but if gotay is really a key to 2011 then we are screwed regardless.

I'm not thrilled with Tatis
I just find it tough to be incredibly upset about Gotay no longer being a Met.

WTF?
That's all I can say. I think Gotay would have remained a useful bench player, so I have no idea why the Mets let him go.

Exactly
Gotay was clearly a good player and he was young so he had the potential to improve. In his place, they decided to keep Fernando Tatis who has done virtually nothing since that great season in 1999 with the Cards. Makes no sense.
FWIW - I have always suspected Tatis's one really good season was steroid induced considering the complete bust afterwards but I maybe wrong.

Let's all just
take a deep breath. It's Ruben Gotay, for heaven's sake! Tatis is a deadweight, but does anyone really think Gotay's a .295 hitter? And who knew his middle name was Bruce?! WTF!
As long as there are history tests, there'll be prayer in school.
