Lo Duca Still Hates the Mets

Paul Lo Duca has no hard feeling when it comes to Met fans. As for the team itself, that's a different story.

"I want them to lose every game," the Nationals catcher told The AP Sunday.

Lo Duca spent two years in Queens before signing with Washington in the offseason. He was available, he says, because Omar Minaya never attempted to re-sign him. He gets his first chance to beat his former team tomorrow night at Shea.

"I'm a brutally honest person, and I tell it like it is. You don't like it, so be it," he said. "And they didn't like it."

Let's get the "asshole" chants started early

Little Paul's pathetic hitting last year gives him little reason to be yapping like that. (Not that Omar replaced him with the second coming of Johnny Bench or anything, but still...)

We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!

I always loved his fire

except when he was blowing up at the umpire and getting thrown out like a whiny like girl.

It's time someone put their foot down... and that foot is me.

Really?

I thought the explosions were the most interesting part of his game last year. It certainly wasn't his "hitting" or his "defense".

Lo Duca gave a damn

Paulie had his limitations and demons for sure, but the guy at least seemed to give a damn. That's more than you can say for some of the slugs on last year and this year's roster. Lo Duca showed fire, emotion and guts. Juiced or not, he always seemed to give it his all on every single pitch of every single inning.
What did Randolph show? A face resembling a botox-OD victim.
Rickey "Role Model" Henderson, Milledge, Tommy "2/3 of an Inning/7 runs" Glavine? Good riddance.
Delgado? Mailed it in half the time.
Reyes? Pouted like a 5 year-old.
Carlos " THIS SHOULD BE A DEUCE FROM WAINRIGHT BUT I'LL JUST WATCH IT TO MAKE SURE--STRIKE THREE, MORON!!!" Beltran? Can't hit in New York. Check his Home vs. Away stats.
This team has no genuine, vocal leader, either on the field or in the dugout.
Randolph hasn't a clue, has surrounded himself with American League castoff coaches, and can't spell Double Switch much less actually implement one and has , from my vantage point, zero respect from the players.
LoDuca was a flawed player and human being. But he busted his hump every day.
The Mets will not win with Willie at the helm and until and unless someone steps up and literally or figuratively kicks some a**, this team will remain a dysfunctional mix of selfish, uncaring, underacheivers destined to once again fall short of a postseason appearance.

So what are you trying to say?

Did you like little Paulie?

Lo Duca was a good player, no doubt. I just hate hearing somebody who left the Mets, then bad mouth them after he leaves. And what was the Mets crime against the pint sized terror? They replaced him? that happens all the time, for Lo Duca to get pissed about it is just plain silly. There is a difference between using something to motivate you and flapping your gums when you should probably just keep quiet, and Lo Duca never seemed to get the difference.

It's time someone put their foot down... and that foot is me.

cliche' man

i’m pretty sure your comment is a joke right. If so it’s hilarious, if not I don’t even know where to begin.

Hey Doc K, No, it wasn't a joke and ...

as to where to begin? – Start at the beginning of the post and bring it on..

what?

How can you be called “Cliche` Man,” misplaced backquote and all, recite a list of cliches, and not be joking? I call shenanigans.

bravo

You forgot to mention that the Mets should trade Beltran and his hair highlights and use the money saved to sign gritty white guys like Aaron Rowand, David Eckstein, and Darin Erstad. Otherwise, your post fit your screen name perfectly.

Now go cry to Mike and the Mad Dog and never post here again.

I just had a thought

I hope that team leader Wright lays into PLD like he did Milledge this spring for ripping the Mets. We wouldn’t let veteraness and being your carousing buddy get in the way of protecting the team.

where did Wright "lay into" Milledge?

From what I remember about the comments I saw, Wright was pretty restrained. I thought what he said was nothing about Lastings directly, and more along the lines of “I’m not sure why he would say that or feel that way…” But perhaps I “misremember” it.

oh wait, nevermind

I found this.

I might have been thinking of an earlier episode, or maybe it was these last lines that were the most memorable to me:

“Personally, I like Lastings. There were times when he messed up and he knew it and he learned from it. I don’t see where this is coming from. I don’t know if it’s just trying to play that bitter traded guy role. I don’t know what he’s trying to accomplish by the things that he’s saying.”

Bitter?

I think Wright misspoke.

He wasn't gritty

His facial hair was way too well groomed for that

I was inspired by Eric's comment that Olerud had the best 3-year run as a Met outside Carlos Beltran to look at a few different Mets, and when I noticed that two of my all-time favorite players (Alfonzo and Strawberry) were kinda screwed by having (relatively)bad seasons in between some really good seasons, I decided to see which Mets had the best 3 seasons, period (non-consecutively). Beltran still comes out on top, but my all-time favorite player Alfonzo comes in 2nd place, and him and Straw are the only two to have three 6.0+ WAR seasons. Also interesting that Hundley comes out ahead of Gary Carter, Cleon Jones almost finishes ahead of Mike Piazza, and Joe McEwing doesn't make the list.
