Open Thread - Game #23: Mets vs. Braves (04/26/2008)
Atlanta Braves at New York Mets, Apr 26, 2008 1:10 PM EDT
Not even the sweet embrace of vicodin could numb the pain of watching last night's loss. It wasn't the loss itself that was so horrible, but having to actually sit through it was the worst part. Two hits and six walks, three runs scored all on free passes. Who can watch this?
Here is the Mets' lineup this afternoon:
Jose Reyes, SS
Endy Chavez, LF
David Wright, 3B
Carlos Beltran, CF
Ryan Church, RF
Carlos Delgado, 1B
Damion Easley, 2B
Gustavo Molina, C
John Maine, RHP
With Brian Schneider still in the hospital receiving treatment for a staph infection in his thumb, the Mets designated Brady Clark for assignment and recalled Gustavo Molina to be the backup to Raul Casanova. Yup, just like they drew it up in spring training: Molina backing up Casanova.

if this goes bad today
im going to need some vics myself. or maybe i’ll just fix myself a little nyquil/tussin/aristocrat cocktail. i call it: the delgado dump. yum yum.
I'll take teh blame for last night's loss
In the swag contest I had always picked Pelfrey to crap the bed in each of his starts, thereby encouraging him to throw six-inning masterpieces. Yesterday Eric cleverly waited until I was away from my Mac to post the contest form and I didn’t have a chance to bury Big Pelf. You see how this works now.
Damn you, Pelfrey. Damn you, Swag Contest.
travelling the last two days:
good for missing two awful turds masquerading as ball games; bad for my swag contest standings.
Mainey
I already low-balled Maine’s start. Hopefully that will get him some outs.
Brent Lillibridge?
That sounds like a made-up name.
your name, sir?
nick. uh, nick… soap.. dish.
you’re name is nick soapdish?
yes. its… uh, french.
french, huh? thats funny, it sounds more, MADE UP, to me.
whats the question people most often ask you?
“who let you in?” oh, wait, i mean, “are you related to the other molinas?”
Are The Molinas....
The baseball equivalent to the Wayans’ family of comedians/actors?
"We praise or blame as one or the other affords more opportunity for exhibiting our power of judgement." Friedrich Nietzsche, "All Too Human" (1878)
You call that acting?
Little-known fact—the Molina brothers were the inspiration for The Darjeeling Ltd.
there's something to that
barely adequate, but tenaciously staying just popular enough to be in the public eye
again with the pop-ups
Reyes has some bad habits.
what's this feeling?
I’m excited that the Mets are getting hits. And runs!
It’s been so long…
bwahaha
And their terrified general flees the field. Now with their morale broken, they should fall apart.
the human gas can
that nickname is kinda cool, in a way
it was close
but a good call thing. I hate the contact play with no one out, second time it’s burned us this year.
