I think I need some distance
before I can really evaluate Glavine’s time with the Mets. I recognize logically that he pitched pretty well during his time here, but it’s hard to forget the 7 run debacle when we needed him most. Time will heal all though, and I’m sure I’ll regard his Mets tenure with fondness soon enough. But not just yet.

I never looked forward to a TG start.
And I quickly came to dread his starts against the Braves.

Glavine can cram it!
I’m thinking about a sweep of the double-header! Let’s go Mets!

classic Glavine here
This start is a great example of what used to drive us crazy about the guy; great to see him doing it in a Braves uniform, when I feared the mere change of laundry would restore him to his old form.

C'mon, CarlosD!
I’m hoping for a 7-run inning here. Counting on CarlosD to keep this alive.

How true.
Can Willie be fired now? That was obviously his fault.

The Braves are reminding me of last week’s Mets all over the place here.

That first
inning by Glavine reminds me of something I wrote last year:
And finally, and perhaps most impressively, Glavine is an incredible pitcher when the bases are loaded, limiting hitters to just a .577 OPS (and just a .305 slugging!). To put that into some perspective, only his former teammate, Greg Maddux—who’s nearly off the charts at .520—among recent pitchers is close to Glavine’s mark. Not Roger Clemens, nor Pedro Martinez, nor Randy Johnson, nor John Smoltz, nor anybody. Quite simply, if there’s a situation with the bases loaded and I need to get three outs, I’m taking Maddux, but Glavine’s my "Plan B."

Anyone watching?
I went to the gym during my lunch break and watched the first inning. Looked like the ump was giving Glavine an enormous strike zone. Has that changed?

14 straight batters set down—looks like I spoke too soon about the laundry failing to rejuvenate Glavine.

Maine out after 4+ innings
I’m only following online, not watching, but the results (4.0 IP, 8 H, 3 BB, 2 K) indicate that he didn’t have his best stuff today.

lost in the shuffle about Heilman sucking
is that that 2-2 pitch to mccann was a damn strike, right over the plate

For what it's worth
The illustration on Gameday looks like it could’ve been both high and inside, though that’s really no consolation for any of us.

I'm sure it must've been
Like I said, I’m very familiar with the generous strike zone Braves pitchers seem to get. But “right over the plate” suggests mid-thigh down the middle, which that pitch wasn’t.

it may be over for Heilman
I know I know, he has a track record, has been pretty good in previous seasons blah blah blah. But this is as unacceptable a performance as Sosa was. I strongly suggest he must be hurt . If so put him on the DL. Otherwise he should accept a trip to the minors(he’d clear waivers) or be dealt with accordingly. Something must be done. This can’t go on.

I'm not 100% sure he would
But I’m pretty sure the point Endy’s Game is trying to make is that he’d clear waivers because he’s been miserable this season

The Mets
have a history with letting bullpen pitchers pitch too long when they have been hurt. Schoinweiss last year, Looper a few years ago to name two. Somehow the pitcher never says anything or they never find out the problem untill it is too late. I know that a healthy Heilman is a better pitcher than this so I have to assume there is something wrong. Otherwise he has just lost it. Its not just the homeruns, its the lack of any command

By my count that’s the Mets sorry record against the Braves over the last 10 seasons, including today’s dismal performance. Essentially losing two out of every three game series.
Why?

awful loss to state the obvious. I guess the magic inspiration of Billy “The truth” Wagner doesn’t work across state lines

This inconsistency is driving me insane
I absolutely hate when the Mets play .500 ball (like in ‘05). I’d almost rather they sucked altogether; that way they wouldn’t be such a tease.
