Carter Has Eye on Randolph's Job

"Willie Randolph got a vote of confidence Friday from General Manager Omar Minaya, but that did not stop the sharks from circling.

On "The Mike & Murray Show" on Sirius Satellite Radio, the former Met Gary Carter campaigned to replace Randolph. Carter, a Hall of Famer, is the manager of the Orange County Flyers of the independent Golden Baseball League."

Intriguing. I'm not sure whether those in the know consider the Kid to be a potential MLB manager, but it's tough to deny that he had enthusiasm and passion in spades.

No chance.

Openly campaigning for a sitting manager’s job guarantees that one will not be a candidate for the job if it becomes open. This is just a “Look at me!” move by Carter.

Kinda classless too

The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

Carter has always kind of struck me as an asshole

For someone who’s supposed to be so nice and innocent, he seems prone to these dick moves.

I was inspired by Eric's comment that Olerud had the best 3-year run as a Met outside Carlos Beltran to look at a few different Mets, and when I noticed that two of my all-time favorite players (Alfonzo and Strawberry) were kinda screwed by having (relatively)bad seasons in between some really good seasons, I decided to see which Mets had the best 3 seasons, period (non-consecutively). Beltran still comes out on top, but my all-time favorite player Alfonzo comes in 2nd place, and him and Straw are the only two to have three 6.0+ WAR seasons. Also interesting that Hundley comes out ahead of Gary Carter, Cleon Jones almost finishes ahead of Mike Piazza, and Joe McEwing doesn't make the list.
