how is that a discussion starter?
“Yes. Duh.” is not going to make for much conversation.
I’d sure love for my sleepiness tomorrow to be justified by a win tonight. That mess yesterday was discouraging.

or, to be less cranky about it,
at this point I think substituting Gary Carter’s name for Piazza’s might make it a more interesting question.
by anonymous on May 6, 2008 9:47 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
we may has well have Piazza
because at least his bad fielding would be canceled by some hitting

lullaby
The Yankees’ new messiah, “Jabba” just gave up a 3-run jack in the 8th to give away the lead. I’ll sleep well tonight…

Great news indeed
I wonder if he started stomping around the mound, yelling his head off, and beating his chest. Or is that just a celebratory act?

Not so much, these days.

Luis Castillo or Brian Schneider can’t break a pane of glass with their throws right now.

Castillo
You can’t blame Castillo for that throw. DW was slow to get the ball to second, and Andruw made a great takeout slide. Good baseball.

Trivia
25 years ago today, Darryl Strawberry made his MLB debut. What Reds starting pitcher took him out three times?
by JoshNY on May 6, 2008 11:06 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
My first instinct
is to say Mario Soto. Why? I can’t name any other Reds pitcher in 1983.
by Alex Nelson on May 6, 2008 11:08 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don't think I could name any
Was Jose Rijo with them then?
by JoshNY on May 6, 2008 11:16 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I looked it up on Retrosheet
Darryl was hitting THIRD in his MLB debut, so much for bringing a guy along slowly!
Mookie Wilson was the leadoff hitter and was 0×6.
The Reds’ starter (who I won’t name) struck out 12 in 9 innings of work (the game went 13)
by JoshNY on May 6, 2008 11:21 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Nice baserunning by Alou
but it’s a damn good thing he made it. Never make the 1st or 3rd out at third!

Regardless, the Mets should be up 8 or 9 runs right now. The way they’ve squandered opportunities in this game, they almost deserve to lose.
Note I said “almost”. I don’t want them to lose!

by SQUAD on May 7, 2008 12:10 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
And is anyone else giddy at the prospect of a Reyes-Reyes DP combo?
(not giddy in a “i’m excited to have Argenis Reyes as my starting 2B” kind of way, but giddy in a “Wayne Hagin’s head might explode” kind of way.)
by SQUAD on May 7, 2008 12:11 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
nah, Hagin would have no problem with that
He’d just call them all Delgado anyway.
by anonymous on May 7, 2008 12:15 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
You know, you're right...
bring up Jose A. Reyes to catch and Raul Reyes for RF as well. Then we could trade for Anthony Reyes to pitch.
This would give Hagin a 55% chance of being right if he referred to everyone as Reyes.
Then again, as you noted, he would probably call them all Delgado anyway.
