Is it macabre to laugh at our current demise?
The most recent post by our esteemed colleague almost had me laughing out of my seat. If there is one thing I look forward to, it’s the late, post game ‘post’ provided by Mr. Simon. I wonder – does Eric come up w/this stuff as he sees the game slipping out of the underachievers hands or does he meditate at the end of another dissapointing loss w/a revolver in one hand and the computer mouse in the other?
For the record, I don’t laugh at the post or the beleagured METS fans, I laugh w/you. I am one of you, so to laugh at you would be laughing at myself…(sometimes that’s not a bad thing to do…it humbles you).
Mets players & fans have tasted victory before and they (we) will taste it again. What we are currently experiencing will only make the future victory taste that much sweeter. The question, the black cloud that hangs over everyones head is AND reads…when?
Here’s hoping for tonight; METS / D-backs…Game 2.
P.S. I won’t be able to make it to the “in-game chatter” tonight. My good friend (and a Cubs fan) has invited me over to his house for Lasagna…And to watch the Cubs vs. the Braves.

Eric meditates after the games. There's no revolver involved, though.
Also, as a long-time Met fan, I know what you mean about future victories. But still, with this line you sound eerily like Willie Randolph:
What we are currently experiencing will only make the future victory taste that much sweeter.
When the Mets were facing some serious adversity last September, Willie said something about the champagne being sweeter once they clinched the division. Those should have been famous last words. What a fool.

he's right, though
All this floundering will just make the DePodesta/Acta team’s World Series victory in 2011 even more fun for us.

KING...may I retort?
You think this disgusting season keeps me happy? You think I enjoy losing? HELL NO! You should see me rant about my losses during fantasy baseball season (but I’m doing quite well as of now)...But I refuse to let this lousy season get me down.
When the METS were in the Subway Series (WORLD SERIES) in 2000 I was the lone METS fan in a smoke filled, burger and beer joint in the desert of 29 Palms, CA. All those other band wagon Yankee fans. God hate em’!
I savored every moment of that time. Even though we lost the dang series, I enjoyed every game of that series. I refuse to let a bad season get me down on a damn blog!
I take the good times and I’ll take the bad times. It’s the journey man! The journey!

no, I know exactly what you're saying
And I wasn’t comparing you to Randolph. I was just pointing out that he made a comment that used some of the same words (and ultimately looked pretty bad doing it).
I actually feel that over the last two or three seasons a lot of “Mets fans” have forgotten what it was like to root for the team just five or six years ago (to say nothing of the early 1980s, early to mid-90s, or many other seasons before my time).
As Mets fans we are required to sit through a lot of the bad for the occasional few seasons of the good. I think a lot of people around here are frustrated that this season is not meeting expectations and turning into one of the bad (or one of the mediocre, at least). Count me among them, but it won’t affect my loyalty or interest.

it's all good
Do you know what I would love to see? 4 to 5 above average seasons. Hell, I just want to watch a game and have a feeling like the Cubs are experiencing in which no matter if our team is 4 or 5 runs down, we just have this feeling that we can come back from it.
What’s going on over there in Cubbie land has to be a good feeling.
I won’t give up until the last week of the season. After seeing what happened to the METS (hate to open that scab) last September, you never know if things could work in our favor. Here’s to hoping.

Ugh.
I regret deeply that Keith was not calling the game last night. He would have been a hilarious distraction while things fell apart on the field.

What will happen first:
The Mets win a game or Alou goes back on the DL?
Discuss.

Alou to the DL
The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

THe All Star Game
seems to be discussed as the time to make a change… Why sacrifice 25 more games with the current mess of a team that we have, simply to spare Willie the embarassment of being fired before he can be an honorary coach at a glorified exhibition game. A manager with heart and fire would be nice. Just last night, Manny Acta tore into Elijah Dukes for his showboating hand signs with Milledge..
I have to think that even if they stay in house with Manuel, things would be different… Our reliance on aging vets is hurting this team. My guess is that Nunez will be replaced by Valentin, who although is a hugely positive impact on Reyes, is another stopgap. Id make the moves now and go with a new hitting coach (maybe HoJo stays as a base coach to please Wright), dump Alomar Sr. (the source of way too many poor baserunning decisions) and possibly Peterson, only if Leo Mazzone will come to NY.
My pick for manager would be Wally, Bobby V or even a vet who has won like Jack McKeon. If not those guys, a tough-nose guy like Jerry Manuel will do as an interim manager… Just my 2 cents-

There is only one thing that will save this team
MLB needs to trade Commissioners with the NBA. Then someone needs to convince David Stern that the league will be better if the Mets are in first place. Within two weeks, the mets will be walking more, and the pitchers will get more Ks. reyes will never get caught stealing.
This is a perfect plan.

The only thing that is constant is CHANGE
Maybe change would be good just for change’s sake. Something to shake up the stagnation we are going through.
Is there someone on this ball club who is the leader? I’m just curious? Is it PEDRO? WRIGHT? WAGNER? ALOU? RANDOLPH? I’m just trying to get my hands around who is it on the ball club that is supposed to be stoking the fire!

Change needs to come from inside
I have been thinking exactly the same. Who are the true leaders within the team? Someone has to step up and lead by example. You would think the veteran players, that have the experience, would be the ones to turn to. Or maybe they are just satisfied with their lofty contracts and waiting for retirement already?!

sign Bonds
For a price tag of ~$8M for the rest of the season, it’s a good deal. Signing Mota was a good way to get the fans used to the sickly sweet stink of cheaters.

Everyone sees BONDS as the panacea
A lot of people see him as being able to contribute to a hurting team. But…
You know what? You may have something. There are a lot of pros / cons for signing him:
PROS:- Big bat / HR/RBI machine / Controversy (yes, it can be good)
- Health (condition of knees) / limited defensive capabilities / can’t rely on him to play everyday / too costly / Controversy (yes, it can be bad as well).
He would probably do something stupid like requesting his own corner of the room and a big chair.
I look forward to everyone shooting holes in this post.
