and now they say he's going to need an MRI

Turned out it was a serious question whether the Mets would win a game before he retired.

if he hits the DL

and Willie has to keep putting scrubs in right and left field, it may not be long before people start getting fired

How about Chad Tracy

He could play 1st base for the Mets next year. He doesn’t have a position on this D-Backs team.
What do you guys think??

not excited yet

Sorry Mets, it’s gonna take more that 3 early runs off a Cy Young candidate and a downright solid start from Pelfrey to feel good about this.

Who am I kidding? It’s like Lucy and the football, even though you keep getting burned, you want to believe.

Well, Reyes usally makes it

Now, after getting caught again, I agree it’s probably a good idea to be more selective.

by tgh on Jun 11, 2008 9:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Reyes

Over the last two years, if we consider pick-offs (which don’t count as SB attempts), Reyes is around 70-75% successful, which is the break-even point. He’d likely be better off never attempting a steal. Or, about as well off.

Not to belittle your pitching arsenal without having seen it, but I imagine you or I could keep Delgado from making contact if we soft-tossed on the inner half of the plate.

OK, I've had enough

After Brian Schneider was allowed to bat there (why is Ramon Castro even on the roster if he’s never going to play?), I’m officially in “I hope they lose the rest of the season” mode, because it’s the only way that real changes will be made, and Randolph and Minaya shown the door.

11 weeks until football season…..

compare 2006 Endy to any other season’s Endy. He can’t hit. I hate to say it because I love the guy, but he, like so much of this team, is not a guy you want in your lineup.

Injuries and crappy players

Injuries are a problem, but who expected Alou to be healthy at age 42? And why on earth are such useless players as Easley, Anderson, Nunez, Raul Casanova, Tatis, etc. seeing any playing time at all? Injuries aren’t all to blame for this team not hitting: the awful hitters doing the hitting are to blame too.

yes

blow the team up. In 2009, I want everyone on this wreck of a team gone except Wright, Reyes, Beltran, Castro, Church (if the concussion doesn’t kill his career), Santana, Maine, Pelfrey, Feliciano, Smith, and Wagner.

I mean, the normal 1-5 hitters have been healthy all year and, as recently as Church’s injury, the 1-6 were all playing pretty much everyday and the team was still looking pretty rough at the plate.

(Yes, I'm having too much fun with GraphJam)
I'm doing a little study on the NL East and thought I'd share an interesting little tidbit. To all of the self-loathing Mets fans/lazy 'MLB insiders' and journalistic parrots who have 1) Condemned the entire Mets organization as a joke 2) Written off this core's impressive run to date and 3) Deified the Phillies as unstoppable juggernauts w/ no chance to lose this division:

Yes, those wins are weighted towards '06-'07 and yes, the Phillies' are more recent but the fact remains that no other team in that span can even come close to the Mets total of days in first place, which should be garnering a lot more respect than it has. If only because we still have nearly the same core in place that has clearly had a lot of success and health-willing can very easily do so again in 2010.
