Stop me if you've heard this one before
Eddie Coleman is on the radio reporting that Moises Alou is back on the DL.
As if that isn't ridiculous enough, the Mets are calling up Robinson Cancel, a catcher, to fill out the roster. @#$% the heck?
This team is a trainwreck. Let's go mess!

The Robinson Cancel Scenario
might be a decent band name. Other than that, however, I just don’t get it.

obviously Omar manages the roster on the computer
He was furiously clicking “Cancel,” hoping to undo the last month of baseball. There’s no way a sanely managed team would respond to a shortage of starting outfielders by calling up a fourth weak-hitting catcher. And this is a sane, rationally managed team, right? (pause for laughter)

Update: we got Trot Nixon
Well, at least that’s something.

Cancel can play the outfield also. He apparently can play a few positons other then just catcher. I’ve read that he’sgot decent wheels too so it’s not like the Mets would be hrowing a slug out there. (I say slug in terms of speed)
The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

Cancel
He’s just there so that Castro never plays. We wouldn’t want a guy like that in the lineup.
%$@ the heck indeed.Vote change: DePodesta/Acta in 2009!!!

Cancel for Alou
If memory serves, to be on the 25 man roster requires that the player also be on the 40 man roster. At present, the Mets are limited in space on the 40 man due to 8 players listed being on the DL. Using the 40 man, the options the Mets had were Cancel, Molina and Evans. Casanova was not available in that he needs to spend 10 days off the 25 man roster (MLB rules) before being brought back on.
Again, if memory serves, some the of the DL names remain on the 40 man in order that insurance picks up some of their salary. However, there is clear dead weight in having Matt Wise and “El Duque” Hernandez taking up valuable space. In all likely hood, neither will pitch for the Mets again. The Mets can afford their full salaries if space is needed.
