Who is next?

Alright, people, who do you think should replace Willie for the long-term?

Keith Hernandez?  Larry Bowa?  Wally Backman?  Don Zimmer?  Barry Bonds (player-coach)?  Art Howe?  Davey Johnson?

In my heart, I want to see Bobby V. come back to town.  It's not gonna happen, but maybe what I really want is someone with his qualities (he encouraged the rivalry with the Braves, which was great.)

To encourage discussion, argument and cheap-shooting, I'll give you my top-three.  Please feel free to do the same:

1. Jerry Manuel (If the Mets play .550 or better the rest of the way, then maybe he earned it.)
2. Buck Showalter
3. Bobby V

Manny Acta

If you’re willing to give Luis Castillo $32 million as Omar Minaya did, then he should be willing to pay Washington whatever it is they want to break Acta’s contract.

Also, at very least Tony Bernazard needs to be shown the door, and perhaps Minaya as well. If Paul DePodesta doesn’t want the Mets job, I’m sure Chris Antonetti would take it.

Vote change: DePodesta/Acta in 2009!!!

Oh!

I forgot about Manny. He would be a nice little pick-up. With all the revenue coming in from the network, MLB.com, and the ticket I purchased this week, they should have enough money for Mr. Acta.

The whole GM thing is over my head. Of course firing Omar during the season will not change the line-up or how the bullpen is used, but if he gets the sense that he’s out the door, might that change how the Mets act at the trade deadline?

god, I hope not

Omar making deals like he’s under the gun is the LAST thing I want to see right now. We saw how that worked for Montreal.

Thanks. You just made me more nervous

But at least if I’m all worried about Omar and the trade deadline, I’ll be less worried about Ollie Perez.

demote omar

keep him around to be some sort of player liaison or player operations manager or some crap, because hes a nice, well connected baseball guy, but for god sake dont let him make any more personnel decisions. he gets too attached too players and it clouds his judgment.

and yes, hire manny acta. that would be awesome.

Mets 2009 coaching staff

Manager – Sandy Alomar sr.
Pitching Coach – El Duque
Hitting Coach – Hojo (kept around to keep DW happy)
First base/catchers – Sandy Alomar jr.
Third base/Infielders – Julio Franco
Bench Coach – Jeff Wilpon
Bullpen – Guy Conti
Outfield/base running – Roger Cedeno

The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

What about Robbie?

Roberto Alomar can be Spitting Coach!

Don’t forget Rey Sanchez as clubhouse barber.

Teufel!

He’s already in the system down in Savannah.

Or jump on the Bondswagon. Player-manager has a nice old-school ring to it. And he couldn’t be worse from a PR standpoint than two of the most famous p-ms, Pete Rose and Cap Anson. Post-game conferences would truly be a pleasure, I’m sure…

Oh snap!

That would be great: “Ricky thought Jose needed to hit cleanup because Ricky understands Jose.”
