Big sweep!

I don’t think this squadron has it in them, but I am pulling for the sweep. The Mets are due for a 5-game win streak, and maybe a perfect game. I want it all this weekend.

And, while I’m asking for gifts, I’d like Bobby Cox and Greg Maddux to get ingrown toenails.

Ungh

Today’s line-up is just dismal. Anderson-Tatis-Schneider.

Gotta love Dub, tho’. That guy leaves it on the field.

by IanB in MD on Jun 27, 2008 2:16 PM EDT reply actions

I assume...

...that the game form from the rained-out game is what counts for this afternoon’s game. I hope there was not some thing about Church hitting a double or something.

by IanB in MD on Jun 27, 2008 2:18 PM EDT reply actions

I have no idea.

Not my department.

No worries

I pick just about the same outcome every day anyway – playing for the 100 points is more fun than the monthly score (althought I’ve ended up in the top-5 each month so far.)

by IanB in MD on Jun 27, 2008 2:20 PM EDT up reply actions

yea, early lead!

If only I didn’t have so much work to do…

We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!

Anyone know how Jeter got out?

On gameday his atbat is blank. Did MLB stop recording his outs or something?

by IanB in MD on Jun 27, 2008 2:25 PM EDT reply actions

strike out on foul tip

Says my MLB GameDay.

Wow

I totally dropped the ball on this one. Thanks to kingcritical you guys actually have a game thread.

by Eric Simon on Jun 27, 2008 2:48 PM EDT reply actions

Game forms

There will be no game form for the afternoon game thanks to my boneheadedness. The game form for tonight’s game is up.

by Eric Simon on Jun 27, 2008 2:53 PM EDT reply actions

Castillo, OBPing like a mutha

Still probably my least favorite Met, but he’s really getting on base lately.

by kingcritical on Jun 27, 2008 3:00 PM EDT reply actions

I don't know...

...if he is my least favorite Met, but I sure don’t think of him fondly. With his shaky knees, I expect he’ll be on the DL before I know it. If I get too attached, I might get hurt. Gotta be careful with my emotions. I’m sensitive.

by IanB in MD on Jun 27, 2008 3:02 PM EDT up reply actions

come on, tell me you don't have a favorite Met or two.

We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!

by kingcritical on Jun 27, 2008 3:03 PM EDT up reply actions

I do.

I just prefer guys who are gonna be around and not fall to bits any minute now – Dub and King Ding-A-Ling. When those guys break my heart, it is not because the glue holding their knees together gave out.

by IanB in MD on Jun 27, 2008 3:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Pelf

That was some good work getting outta that inning. Mike’s pitch count is a bit high, but I’m glad he didn’t pull a Ollie and just fall to bits after the lead-off 2B. I left for a couple minues and was totally prepared to see a 4-1 game when I got back. Yeah!

by IanB in MD on Jun 27, 2008 3:00 PM EDT reply actions

agree

its funny but I am starting to have as much faith in him as almost any Mets starter, even Santana to a certain extent.

by Endys Game on Jun 27, 2008 3:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Castillo!

With another steal. I like.

We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!

by kingcritical on Jun 27, 2008 3:07 PM EDT reply actions

No it ain't

Clutch only counts if you hit a homer in the 8th or 9th innings, and only when you are behind. That’s why A-Rod will forever be a chump just like CarlosB. Only clutch players like Dave Roberts and David Eckstein are clutch in the most clutch sense of things.

by IanB in MD on Jun 27, 2008 3:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Clutchlos.

That is all.

We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!

by kingcritical on Jun 27, 2008 3:09 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah! That's more like it!

CarlosB will never be clutch like Jeter (that guy is a prince among men.) Jeter is clutch when he eats breakfast. Beltran is just overpaid. Screw him.

by IanB in MD on Jun 27, 2008 3:17 PM EDT up reply actions

oh jesus, kill me now

Howie Rose and Wayne Hagin just launched off on a Suzyn Waldmanesque act of verbal Jeter-blowing. I can’t believe the nosedive in quality WFAN has shown this year.

by anonymous on Jun 27, 2008 3:18 PM EDT reply actions

Sad day

This is where gamecast comes in handy – you don’t have to listen to any of that crap

by ams258 on Jun 27, 2008 3:19 PM EDT up reply actions

It was mostly Hagin

howie just pointed out that he did not think Jeter was overrated, which is his right to state even if I disagree. But Hagin just gushed al la Waldman.

by Endys Game on Jun 27, 2008 3:20 PM EDT reply actions

A-Rod is un-clutch like Beltran

Driving in a run in the third inning? What an un-clutch asshole. Real men drive in runs in the eighth inning.

by JoshNY on Jun 27, 2008 3:21 PM EDT reply actions

Gah

That stayed up in the air forever.

by Eric Simon on Jun 27, 2008 3:24 PM EDT reply actions

Also

Endy’s glove might’ve had that.

by Eric Simon on Jun 27, 2008 3:25 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't remember

Was there an over-under for how many pitches would be thrown in today’s game?

by IanB in MD on Jun 27, 2008 3:27 PM EDT reply actions

He is not pitching badly

Yanks have blooped and dinked and there have been errors in the field. He has gotten the outs he needs to keep us in the game against a very good offensive team

by Endys Game on Jun 27, 2008 3:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Way to go Carlos!

Productive out, baby! Now that is clutch!

by ams258 on Jun 27, 2008 4:03 PM EDT reply actions

my mlb gameday didn't tell me anything about beltran's AB

all i see is a red dot by cano’s name. fielder’s choice 4-6?

by gogomets on Jun 27, 2008 4:04 PM EDT reply actions

aha

there we go. both delgado’s and beltran’s results came up at the same time. nice to come right back. let’s wear out this shitty yankee bullpen for 4 games, please.

by gogomets on Jun 27, 2008 4:06 PM EDT up reply actions

just saw the video of beltran's groundout

nice throw by gold glover derek jeter. didn’t draw the 1st baseman way off the bag or anything.

by gogomets on Jun 27, 2008 4:11 PM EDT reply actions

LOL, Jeter

You’re so awful now. I love it.

by JoshNY on Jun 27, 2008 4:14 PM EDT up reply actions

let's see if pelfrey has any grit/heart/fire

a gritty pitcher would get out of this inning unscathed.

i kid, i kid.

by gogomets on Jun 27, 2008 4:17 PM EDT reply actions

Face it

He just doesn’t know how to win.

by Eric Simon on Jun 27, 2008 4:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe

I’m more bothered by the fact that he apparently doesn’t know how to throw his changeup in the strike zone.

by JoshNY on Jun 27, 2008 4:20 PM EDT up reply actions

oh Captain, the Captain

I love seeing you hit into outs.

We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!

by kingcritical on Jun 27, 2008 4:24 PM EDT reply actions

GREAT JOB!!

Pelf gets out of it and negates the awful play by Castillo. Luis better be sitting in the second game.

by Endys Game on Jun 27, 2008 4:24 PM EDT reply actions

I wouldn't bet on it

And, realistically, he’s got a hit and two walks to go with his error, so I probably wouldn’t bench him either.

by JoshNY on Jun 27, 2008 4:28 PM EDT up reply actions

true

But I still can’t stand him. I know the numbers are pretty good but he plays soft if such a thing can be said about a baseball player. And on another note, there has to be someone better than Trot Nixon we can pick up until Church re-establishes himself.

by Endys Game on Jun 27, 2008 4:30 PM EDT up reply actions

not aggressive enough

doesn’t look to take the extra base, takes too many pitches even in spots when he shouldn’t, doesn’t maximise his skills. Is prone to bonehead plays in the field. Even with the injuries, Castillo actually has pretty good skills but is generally too cautious. Why am I arguing this though? There are plenty of bigger Castillo haters on this blog.

by Endys Game on Jun 27, 2008 4:38 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm not a huge Castillo fan either

But his job is to take pitches and get on base, so I don’t mind at all that he does so. Taking the extra base is pretty insignificant in comparison. I could do without the boneheaded plays in the field, though, considering he was billed as a much better fielder than Gotay at the point when both were on the team.

This sounds like the poor logic that Phils fans used to run Abreu out of town even though he was their best player for like seven straight years.

by JoshNY on Jun 27, 2008 4:42 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't blame you

Like I said, the reason he was touted as a better option than Gotay is because “he’s such a good fielder,” which isn’t really the case.

by JoshNY on Jun 27, 2008 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions

pretty good numbers?

The guy has an OPS+ of 56 on the season.

by anonymous on Jun 27, 2008 4:36 PM EDT up reply actions

sorry, i think i misunderstood

You were talking about Castillo, or Nixon, there?

by anonymous on Jun 27, 2008 4:36 PM EDT up reply actions

no you were right

It’s really the contract I object to I guess. Luis is having a good game today I must admit despite the error.

by Endys Game on Jun 27, 2008 4:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Hagin is the worst!!

He is now going on and on about fans sneaking onto the field and getting into fights with cops. This is meaningful to my life, how??

by Endys Game on Jun 27, 2008 4:29 PM EDT reply actions

OMFG

Okay, I like this game. Delgado is REDEEMED!

The Yankee Bullpen

is truly truly horrific. No lefthanders!! And junk in the middle.

by Endys Game on Jun 27, 2008 4:47 PM EDT reply actions

Now I'm freaked out

What happens in the next three games? Dub, CarlosD and CarlosB already have 11 RBI between them. Will they have any left?

by IanB in MD on Jun 27, 2008 4:48 PM EDT reply actions

Going to Feliciano in the 6th here?

Couldn’t you use someone… I don’t know, crappy?

by JoshNY on Jun 27, 2008 4:53 PM EDT reply actions

That's two throwing errors for Tatis today

Delgado is no Keith Hernandez (or John Olerud), but he certainly isn’t THIS bad in the field.

by JoshNY on Jun 27, 2008 4:57 PM EDT reply actions

Jeter grounds out to end the bottom of the seventh.

Because that’s what real men do. They pack it in when their team is down by a bunch of runs. They don’t hit meaningless home runs like A-Rod did in the sixth.

by JoshNY on Jun 27, 2008 5:18 PM EDT up reply actions

MY GOODNESS!!

NINE RBI”S !! You must be loving life JoshNY

by Endys Game on Jun 27, 2008 5:29 PM EDT reply actions

DELGADO!

That home run was not clutch. Why would you go and hit a home run when your team is already up big? He’s such a compiler.

by JoshNY on Jun 27, 2008 5:30 PM EDT reply actions

Heh

Whatever else Delgado does for the rest of the year, I will have fond memories of him singlehandedly demolishing the Yankees in the Mets’ last game in that shithole. I should know this, but will this be the first time we’ve swept them in the Bronx?

by JoshNY on Jun 27, 2008 5:32 PM EDT reply actions

I think

This is the first time we’ve ever swept them in the Bronx or at Shea.

by ams258 on Jun 27, 2008 5:34 PM EDT up reply actions

No

We definitely swept them at Shea a few years ago, I even have a picture on my PC at home of someone waving a broom out their car window on the way out of the parking lot.

by JoshNY on Jun 27, 2008 5:35 PM EDT up reply actions

My mistake

Somehow we swept them at Shea in 2004.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subway_Series

But you’re right, Josh, this is the first time we swept at Yankee stadium.

by ams258 on Jun 27, 2008 5:35 PM EDT reply actions

Ah, there we go, 2004 it was

That first game was when Kaz Matsui hit two HR and the Mets blew Mike Mussina out of the water. Richard Hidalgo hit a HR for the Mets in each game of that series, which was the middle of his team-record five consecutive games with a HR (also in Cincinnati the night before and in Philly the night after).

by JoshNY on Jun 27, 2008 5:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Richard Hidalgo

I never thought I would hear anyone mention his name again

by Endys Game on Jun 27, 2008 5:47 PM EDT up reply actions

By the way

Delgado’s 9 RBI in today’s game are a new Mets record; the previous mark was 8, set by Dave Kingman on June 4, 1976. In that game, Kingman was also one of seven Mets to hit three home runs in one game (and at Dodger Stadium, no less).

by JoshNY on Jun 27, 2008 5:38 PM EDT reply actions

Oh man

I didn’t realize that a thread was set up. I’ve been sitting in front of the TV by myself, forced to enjoy this wonderful ass-kicking by myself.

They were a little off with that one.

Dude, the METS just played a great game and won it handily.

Is everyone in this room drinking prune juice? Remove the butt plugs from your rectums and stop being so uptight! Is there anyone in this room that likes to smile, laugh and live a little w/their sport commentary? SHEESH!

favorite butt plug name: the Rear Admiral

You might consider that, instead of calling people humorless prigs, you could acknowledge that others might just have a different sense of humor from yours, and not think a random yawning cat was the funniest thing since the Marx Brothers. Or try the prune juice, it tastes great.

by anonymous on Jun 27, 2008 7:21 PM EDT up reply actions

are you kidding?

you are telling me that every blogger in this room is so dull that they can’t enjoy a photo from time to time? did you take a look at the text in the picture. It was a response to Delgado’s performance. I even stated that it was for Delgado.

U know what! You all can take this blog and shove it. There are plenty of other teams that appreciate a little fun w/respects to commenting on the game. If this forum represents the fan base of the NY Mets, then it’s a true shame. Perhaps the performance of the team is direct reflection of the performance / attitude of this blog site.

Adios…And to those Mets fans w/a since of humor, good luck w/the rest of the season.

wow

The only thing I’m superstitious about is baseball. Thus, I’m afraid to watch tonight’s game since I didn’t actually get to watch any of the Mets 3 games at Yankee Stadium.

The Mets really should take 2 of 3 at Shea. They’re facing Sidney Ponsons (royally sucks), Andy Pettitte (meh), and Darrell Rasner (moderately sucks). No Chamberlain. Do it, guys.

2013 ALL-STAR GAME(TM) LOGO CONTEST

Major League Baseball has formally announced that Citi Field will be the site of the 2013 All-Star Game. (see video) In light of this, I have decided to launch an All-Star Game logo contest. To help get you started, I provided all of you with a sample All-Star Game logo. (click here to embiggen) If you wish to participate, please enter your submission with an image below, in the comments section. The contest ends on May 31st. I will choose a select number of finalists, and the community will vote on which of those logos is the best one.

Can you create a better logo than the sample logo provided? Then, give it a shot. Good luck to all participants!
Jon Rauch is awesome. Dan Tanna is, obviously, a fan of Greg Pomes.
LET'S GO METS GIF

By the way, I need some help here - is there any way to make this gif go faster? The "Let's" and "Go" sequences are only supposed to be 500 milliseconds each, and "Mets" a full second. Instead, each sequence is at least a full 1000 milliseconds (1 second) longer than it should be.
The first picture of a not devastated Tom Glavine after Game 162 of 2007 has finally been released.

(This is an old and kind of out of left field reference, but hey, we're playing the Marlins right now and John Maine just got released, so it's sort of relevant, plus I spent approximately 6.5 minutes making it and felt like I had to share.)
