LOL! BRO...ARE YOU KIDDING?
I can’t even vote on this question…
You should have had a 3rd option…(neither)
But it’s really a good question.

surely you can't be serious
If we’re going to bring back a useless old dude to restore the team’s mojo, I have two words: Steve and Trachsel
Castillo
Fucking Castillo is the laziest fucking fielder. Willie should bench his as ala Reyes and J-Roll.
wow! already cussing...i need to pull up the game on MLB

No no no
He’s a “proven veteran.” He was simply “conserving energy.” He’s “wily.” He “knew Santana would get the double play later in the inning.”
If Ruben Gotay had done the same thing he would’ve been benched for a game or two though.

"strength of the Mets bench"
Keith, have you been snorting the funny stuff again? What strength is there to a whole bunch of over-the-hill 2Bs?

speaking of 2Bs
Remind me again why they couldn’t find a roster spot for Gotay? If they needed so many 2Bs, couldn’t they have found room for one with, you know, UPSIDE?

Arrogant Bastard Ale
(from San Diego! I just realize)
This is an agressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality or depth. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar territory—maybe something with a multi-million dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it’s made in a little brewery, or one that implies that their tasteless, fizzy yellow beer will give you more sex appeal. Perhaps you think multi-million dollar ad campaigns make a beer taste better. Perhaps you’re mouthing your words as you read this.

because his offense keeps getting worse.
Jesus, with this lineup, we just might get no-hit by Randy freakin’ Wolf.

Also Endy's defense
more than makes up for how crappy a hitter he is, right? Especially vs. LHP? We couldn’t use Pascucci there?
Fucking Mets. Fucking fuck fuck. Morons.
I'll pop in to say one thing
What kind of corner outfield are the Mets fielding tonight?
Seriously, this is a Major League ballclub?
We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!
the game was meant to be played crappily?
Not talking about Beltran, of course.

And that’s consistent with his historical PtGtRW Index. Positive in the minors and early years, then dipping into negative numbers in his years with the Mets.

Giles be juicing
Marcus Giles should have been on the cover of the Mitchell Report along with his brother.
Marcus Giles' numbers fell off a cliff?
Right around the same time the steroid story broke and everyone stopped using?
Imagine that.
yeah
Just like his brother’s power numbers (OK, it might be the cavernous ballpark).

Brian at least had other redeeming value
Like a career OBP over .400. Not to mention he’s in his late 30s, when it’s normal for players’ power to be declining. Marcus should be in his prime and he blows.
sigh
Reyes lined out. There goes one of the 3 non-automatic outs in the lineup.

Because he's old and his knees would've fallen off if he'd tried to advance?
Actually, probably because it didn’t look like there was much chance that ball was going to get caught and Castillo was most of the way to second so he could score if it wasn’t.
"bases are loaded for Easley"
You never want to hear those words.
Flushing, Queens: soon to be known as Johan's-burg!!!
It would be bases loaded for Pascucci if the Mets knew their business
by JohnPeterson on Jun 6, 2008 11:33 PM EDT up reply actions
i don't get it
the dude’s minor league numbers are fine…why not give him a shot?
because
He’s a career minor leaguer
Easley, et. al are proven major leaguers
by JohnPeterson on Jun 6, 2008 11:35 PM EDT up reply actions
Don't you think there might be a reason why Pascucci is 29 and has a total of 62 major league at-bats?
because
he hasn’t been given a chance?
You’re right, though. Nunez is better. Sure am glad that Abraham got to hit in a tie game in the eighth inning last night. His career 62 OPS+ certainly should afford him that opportunity.
(rolls eyes)
by JohnPeterson on Jun 6, 2008 11:36 PM EDT up reply actions
Maybe it's because he's not that good
The EXPOS wouldn’t give him a chance when they were in full cost-cutting mode and they were MISERABLE
there's just no evidence to support that
Pascucci can’t hit better than every player on the Mets bench
While “statistics” and “history” would suggest otherwise
by JohnPeterson on Jun 6, 2008 11:40 PM EDT up reply actions
maybe the expos wouldn't give him a chance
because they were a TERRIBLE organization?
there might be
but looking at his minor league stats, i can’t figure out why. i really hope people aren’t evaluating him based on SIXTY TWO at bats in the majors.
what up fellas
i see we’ve…scored a run!!!!!!111 wow…what a catch.
oh wow...
after a fielding gaffe by santana…a baserunning gaffe! roll it up boys
is it just me
or do both Gonzalezes on San Diego look exactly the same?

really?
That would make sense. I guess with Gonzalez being a common name, I hadn’t thought of that possibility.

here we go
Crafty veteran out-duels big ticket Santana
In a battle of left-handers, Wolf comes out on top, limiting the high-powered Mets to one run on just five hits
yup
this game is a microcosm of this season. I wish I had reason to believe they’ll make a comeback, but that’s such a 2006 notion.
Flushing, Queens: soon to be known as Johan's-burg!!!
The only reason Tatis is in the big leagues and Pascucci isn't
Is because Tatis has been here before
in more snarkily amusing news
Guess what roided up Milwaukee reliever blew the game by giving up 4 runs to Colorado without recording an out?
Flushing, Queens: soon to be known as Johan's-burg!!!
why wouldn't castro pinch-hit against the lefthander?
and why do we have two fat-ass backup catchers on the bench?
Yea
It really makes no sense.
I thought the whole point of having a 3rd catcher was to use Castro as a PH.

of course
why would anyone in their right mind pitch to Reyes there?
Flushing, Queens: soon to be known as Johan's-burg!!!
the only real poetic justice
would’ve been Wolf hitting Castillo with a pitch there.
right file, wrong case
I think that was Exhibit A for the courtroom next door, People vs. Why Castillo Shouldn’t Bat AT ALL.
shut the fuck up san diego announcers
those were outside all the way
so it goes
At least the Rays won. As long as they never have to play in Boston again, they should win that division.
Flushing, Queens: soon to be known as Johan's-burg!!!
thanks for the reminder
But you know, Zambrano might have a Cy Young season for us, too, one of these years.
The year before the Mets traded for him...
Zambrano won the “Triple Crown,” reading the AL in hit batsmen, wild pitches, AND walks.
What the fuck were we doing?
This year...
In 14 games (6 starts) for the Rockies’ AAA affiliate in Colorado Springs, Zambrano is 0-6 with a 9.45 ERA and a 2.30 WHIP.
it's the high altitude
He’d thrive at Shea if we gave him another shot.

well, we'd better get going on that
Who do we still have in the farm system to trade?
The problem with Reyes and Beltran?
too much power
and they don’t, nor have they ever played 2B
that is inexcusable
actually, Reyes did
Remember, when Matsui first showed up?
Ah, 2004. At least I expected the Mets to suck that season.

Beltran
I really think he will be underappreciated throughout his Mets career, and only after he’s gone will everyone realize what a great player he was.

too bad the Mets wasted his prime by surrounding him with crap

this got me thinking...
when is fmart coming back from injury…this team could use a decent outfielder
i hope they don't bring him up
In retrospect part of the reason that Milledge is not here anymore is that brought him up to get abused in 2006. Let him be in AA.
the Mets could improve
simply by replacing Easley, Chavez and Cancel/Casanova with Aguila, Feliciano and Pascucci
don’t hold your breath
by JohnPeterson on Jun 7, 2008 12:16 AM EDT up reply actions
Pascucci
I appreciate the advocacy on behalf of a potentially useful player, but the Mets problems stretch waaaay beyond what he could fix.
Of course, if you’re using him as a symbol of everything that’s wrong with the Mets front office, then please continue.

But we’ll probably have many other nominees for the position.

He’s latino, and laid back (translation: not gritty and gamer-y and full of fire and passion and steriods like LoDuca) and he struck out against Wainwright. He’ll never be truly appreciated for how good he is.

Do NY fans really suck this much?
I hope not, even if the evidence does seem to suggest it sometimes. Let’s just remember that the Post readership is not the entire rooting base for the team.
look at the shit A-Rod gets
Obviously, not all NY fans are that bad, but there’s a fucking pitchfork-wielding minority that is really that bad, and they nearly drove one of the greatest players in history out of town for not being as “clutch” as a mediocrity like Scott Brosius.
Flushing, Queens: soon to be known as Johan's-burg!!!

because I guessed 67 or something like that
And I predicted the Mets would lose 3-2
I’m an optimist
by JohnPeterson on Jun 7, 2008 12:20 AM EDT up reply actions
Looks like 54
50 points
+ 1 point for each out recorded (181=18)
+ 2 points for each inning completed after the fourth (22=4)
+1 point for each strikeout (51=5)
-2 points for each hit (72=14)
-4 points for each earned run (42=8)
-1 point for each walk (11=1)
= 54
damnit
so close
I want that perfect game
by JohnPeterson on Jun 7, 2008 12:26 AM EDT up reply actions
I hope someone gets it
It’s tough. It’s hard enough to get all of the other stuff right, let alone the game score.
Bell
living proof that the Mets don’t understand BABIP and DIPS, the biggest development in baseball in the last decade
maybe
But it looked like they understood that when they traded Seo for Sanchez and Bannister for Burgos (and I will defend the Burgos trade to my dying day).
Flushing, Queens: soon to be known as Johan's-burg!!!
by Greenpoint Ian on Jun 7, 2008 12:25 AM EDT up reply actions
the Burgos deal was good
regardless of what the fish say
And the Sanchez deal might have had more to do with love for Sanchez than disdain for Seo
by JohnPeterson on Jun 7, 2008 12:26 AM EDT up reply actions
Yea
I don’t know if we can say it was “good”, but Bannister isn’t anything special. He has blah stuff and an impressive understanding of objective analysis.
Bannister
I’m not killing the deal. But I’m starting to think Banny might succeed because he’s so smart. The other trade people over look as that Lindstrom\Owens for Bostick and Vargas. If Bostick doesn’t pan out that was is going to suck worse than the Bell trade.
Burgos
He had a much bigger upside than Bannister, and got hurt. That shit happens in baseball.
My theory is that the front office had a stat geek who told Minaya to make those deals (and the Benson trade), but then the Wilpons found out he produced a rap album, and he was fired. ;-)
