Sorry

It’s up now. I could’ve swore I put it up before, but I must have been so disillusioned by baseball at the time that I just blanked out.

consistency: thick and gloppy

If I hear the word “consistent” from Willie Randolph one more time I am going to throw something. I know he’s the manager, so he can’t diagnose the cause of the Mets’ problems as “playing a bunch of scrubs who can’t hit” (the true explanation), but Christ, he needs to say something more convincing about how THEY CAN’T HIT anyway. It’s not about mental states or “stepping up”; it’s a consequence of more than half the starting lineup being replacement-level or below hitters.

by anonymous on Jun 8, 2008 3:53 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Maybe it wouldn't be so bad

if Castillo wasn’t given a long term contract
the Mets moved on from the Alou the delicate flower
Let Church fully rest after his second concussion.

I feel like throwing something when i think about what a lousy job Omar has done.

yes

If we’re assigning blame for the terrible team we’re playing right now, I’d say it’s 100% on Omar’s failure to put together a roster with acceptable depth. I’m just irritated as hell with Willie’s contentless, Joe Morgan-esque way of talking about his team’s suckitude.

by anonymous on Jun 8, 2008 3:58 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

oh boy

Castillo batting 2nd-great. How about another 2-1 game-maybe we can win this one. The Willie death watch to resume??? How about Omar??

overslept. great. looks like most of the team is sleeping during the game

Really?

I’m not listening to the audio. He really overslept?

by Eric Simon on Jun 8, 2008 4:18 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Eddie Coleman said on the pregame

That Castro was supposed to start but overslept (and was benched for it, I guess?).

hey, the Mets scored a run

I guess the offense can mail it in from here on.

Yup

No need to show up for the next eight-and-a-third.

hey, two more runs!

A triple from Delgado. Wow.

Drat

I was contemplating a “Will Carlos Delgado hit a triple” question in the swag. Oh well.

by Eric Simon on Jun 8, 2008 4:20 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

damn it

You know I would have answered “yes” to that one.

this is the next three games' worth of scoring, so enjoy it now.

How many innings, do you think, till they next score? I’m guessing about 35.

Bwaaaaaaaah?!?!?

Da-zoink! What are those things?

by Eric Simon on Jun 8, 2008 4:19 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

triple

He hit to right field, not exactly down the line, but Giles didn’t get to it. The ball went into that corner behind the “jury box” and bounced around a little there before he picked it up.

oh, god, get Lasorda off the radio

This charity fundraising bullshit is interrupting my baseball game.

holy crap

I didn’t even realize at first that this was fundraising for Michael Milken’s charity. Fucking unacceptable.

Three hits, but the fastball is sitting consistently at 91.

Hagin forgets the score

“Around third is Carlin - he will tie the game - not yet, it’s a one-run game.”

by anonymous on Jun 8, 2008 5:40 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Hagin has the shining

Carlin will tie the game in the eighth inning, maybe

Okay, 5-4 Mets

time to call the game on account of Simons having the score right

anyone else getting sick of these mlb.tv ads

the weird thing is they have one where Victor Martinez sounds totally fey, which must be prompting the Beavis and Butthead Cleveland Crowd to giggle and snicker. So then a few days ago they air a different one where Martinez sounds positively dour, you know, more manly and all. The thing is they’re still playing the one where he sounds like Michael Jackson, so it’s like, Victor, you’re not fooling anyone.

Maybe I watch too many commercials.

coming in late to the game

MLB ads…boring…nuff said

Prostate cancer and LaSorda…”My daddy told me that if the country needs you to fight, you fight!”

Well, I’m in the military and I’m pissed about “W” telling people to fight in his ”.ucked up” war. now, that’s all i’m gonna say about that.

glad to see the mets are doing something offensively w/out being offensive to baseball

Laboring Mets

In all seriousness…
It’s disturbing to see how the METS seem to have to work so hard for a victory. Especially against a team as lowly as the Padres.

What do you guys make of this?

There are some intagibles in baseball that just can’t be calculated w/stats. Watching / listening to their performance…I can’t help but be worried.

wha?

I don’t know what you’re talking about with this “intangibles” nonsense. The Mets suck right now for reasons that are 100% tangible and statistically measurable: they are starting a lineup every day more than half of whose players cannot hit at the major-league level. So they are not scoring enough runs to win a game, ever.

let's go 2009 Mets

I think this season - at least as far as playoff hopes go - is officially over.

I wonder

When my mom’s going to ask me, “What happened?!”

She tends to ask me that after every goddamn game they lose. Like I have some wisdom about why bad things happen.

She’s my own little press conference.

I think it is time to hit the panic button

Honestly, Can anyone think of watching this team for the rest of the year? We will probably all slit our own throats. I like Willie and HoJo, but I am convinced it is there time to go. even two weeks ago I did not think that. I live in Socal and watch the Padres alot. They suck. I don’t think I have seen an offense or defense as anemic as theirs in a few years in the MLB. I know they only scored two runs 3 out of the four games, but they are basically starting a decent AAA club right now with all of their injuries.

Soon it will be Bye Bye Willie and I don’t think Minaya will last after this season.

Just a sad waste of good talent.

I guess I'll go down w/the ship

How ya doin there L.A. Mets? I lived out there (SoCal) for 13 years and I’ve had my share of Dodgers games at Chavez Ravine (and the Dodger Dogs) and I’ve been lucky enough to spend some good years in San Dawg and I’ve been able to take in a few games at PETCO while staying at the nearby OMNI. Pricey, but worth it.

I refuse to give up on these guys. Some of them are bustin their a$$ trying to make it work. I’ve got to take the good w/the bad gang. Love em, Losers and/or Winners. They’ll get it done…Maybe later than sooner, but they’ll get it done.

I was inspired by Eric's comment that Olerud had the best 3-year run as a Met outside Carlos Beltran to look at a few different Mets, and when I noticed that two of my all-time favorite players (Alfonzo and Strawberry) were kinda screwed by having (relatively)bad seasons in between some really good seasons, I decided to see which Mets had the best 3 seasons, period (non-consecutively). Beltran still comes out on top, but my all-time favorite player Alfonzo comes in 2nd place, and him and Straw are the only two to have three 6.0+ WAR seasons. Also interesting that Hundley comes out ahead of Gary Carter, Cleon Jones almost finishes ahead of Mike Piazza, and Joe McEwing doesn't make the list.
