Wright

So David Wright makes the all-star ream after all. Alfonso Soriano will miss the game due to injury, so Matt Holliday - previously a reserve - will start in place of Soriano and Wright will join the team as a reserve.

yeah, i was thinking that too

but its not like he’ll have to travel anywhere. and hes not in the HR derby so he’ll still get a decent amount of rest. no wife and kids to miss anyway.

Seriously

David Wright is a wealthy, famous, unmarried 25-year-old man living in New York City. You think if he weren’t selected, he’d have spent those three days relaxing at home with the latest issue of Atlantic Monthly and a glass of merlot? I doubt it.

very funny

the joke works better because you went with the less obvious Atlantic Monthly shout out as opposed to something obvious like the New York Times crossword puzzle

Good.

I thought maybe Coco Crisp would have been added to the NL line-up instead. You know how popular those Red Sox are these days.

Whatever

I am happy for Wright because he wanted it so badly but what a joke this All Star selection process is . Miguel Tejada?!! Please. Reyes is the obvious choice at shortstop. you don’t like the way he dances so you don’t vote him in players?? Shame on you!! And has anybody noticed the year JJ Hardy is having? Tejada is like maybe the fifth best shortstop in the league!! And yes I know that every team has to have at least one player but they should make an exception for the Nats. Christian Guzman is your best player??? No wonder you are 22 game under .500. And yet you beat us all the time and knocked us out of the playoffs last year. Sometimes I wonder why I love baseball.

I was inspired by Eric's comment that Olerud had the best 3-year run as a Met outside Carlos Beltran to look at a few different Mets, and when I noticed that two of my all-time favorite players (Alfonzo and Strawberry) were kinda screwed by having (relatively)bad seasons in between some really good seasons, I decided to see which Mets had the best 3 seasons, period (non-consecutively). Beltran still comes out on top, but my all-time favorite player Alfonzo comes in 2nd place, and him and Straw are the only two to have three 6.0+ WAR seasons. Also interesting that Hundley comes out ahead of Gary Carter, Cleon Jones almost finishes ahead of Mike Piazza, and Joe McEwing doesn't make the list.
