Mets @ the Movies: Two Thumbs Up

So the Mets are in Cin-City and Shea is closed ... what's a boy to do? Head to the movies, thats what! I stumbled over to Clearview Cinema's Chelsea location on 23rd and 8th, after some hearty wings-and-beer pre-gaming at Dallas BBQ, and joined Mr. Met and friends for "Mets at the Movies." Amazin! Best time I've had at a game this year and I wasn't even in a baseball stadium.

The powers that be recreated Shea's cheap seats in a 250-person capacity movie theater complete with hot dog vendors, beer guys, live trivia ... heck even the Pepsi Party Patrol was there. Giveaways, sing-a-longs and an authentic seventh-inning stretch made me feel back home in Section 38.  Here are some pics for your viewing pleasure ... and by the way the next "Mets at the Movies" is Aug.27 vs the Phuckers.

Your movie has come.

Packed house full of orange and blue. God Bless America.

If they only had these comfy seats at Shea.

I told you they recreated the cheap seats at Shea.

Oh come on, not even Aramark asks $5 for a water! But you save a bundle on CrackerJacks, which came in a "bag" the size of old-school airline peanuts.

I don't know if you can make it out in this pic, but this ticket stub, to an event at a MOVIE THEATER I remind all, reads "Rain or Shine." Right.

Nice

Great pics. It’s hard to tell, but how many people would you say were there?

at least 200 ...

It was a packed house and the theater sign read Max. Capacity Under law 250 Persons.” And I’d like to reiterate, there wasn’t a seat to be had save for the sprain-your-neck front row of 8-10 seats. Thanks for the camera compliments – I go to just about everything mets so I’m content being your bitch field correspondent for now.

I want to check one of these out

But they never seem to be a night that is good for me.

Maybe I’ll go to the one at the end of August. I do like the idea of getting a group together, if anyone else is interested.

We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!

I was inspired by Eric's comment that Olerud had the best 3-year run as a Met outside Carlos Beltran to look at a few different Mets, and when I noticed that two of my all-time favorite players (Alfonzo and Strawberry) were kinda screwed by having (relatively)bad seasons in between some really good seasons, I decided to see which Mets had the best 3 seasons, period (non-consecutively). Beltran still comes out on top, but my all-time favorite player Alfonzo comes in 2nd place, and him and Straw are the only two to have three 6.0+ WAR seasons. Also interesting that Hundley comes out ahead of Gary Carter, Cleon Jones almost finishes ahead of Mike Piazza, and Joe McEwing doesn't make the list.
