Endy Hitting Second
drives me crazy. Why is it a common practice for MLB managers to hit the worst hitter in the lineup second?
by Shomov on Jul 19, 2008 7:14 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Because
If, for some reason, he happens to get on base, he has good speed.

Running Fast
doesn’t justify hitting him second. You want to bunch your good hitters together. Additionally, since the second hitter is likely to get one more at bat than someone hitting down in the order, you should give that extra at bat to someone who is likely to do something with it..

Yeah, I know
I was being sarcastic. It really is baffling why Endy and Marlon keep being put there. Why not Tatis or Easley?

Not a problem
Sarcasm is untraceable on the Internet.

That is ridiculous
Let’s get the game going, for God’s sake.

Larkin
turned down a trade to the Mets in the middle of the 2000 season
by Shomov on Jul 19, 2008 7:46 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
yeah and Phillips went out and got Bordick
For Melvin Mora instead. An underrated shitty trade.
by DoctorK16 on Jul 19, 2008 7:52 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yep
I’m not sure why that trade does not get more press as a really bad deadline deal.
by Shomov on Jul 19, 2008 7:54 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
cause we went to the World series that year
but it still was a terrible deal
by DoctorK16 on Jul 19, 2008 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Phillips made that trade
and Abbot ended up starting the final game of the World Series; I am sure that wasn’t what he envisioned.
by Shomov on Jul 19, 2008 8:02 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
and Bordick catches my ire
for not being able to make a play on the Sojo ball.
by DoctorK16 on Jul 19, 2008 8:04 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
actually that was Abbott
but still Bordick was useless.
by DoctorK16 on Jul 19, 2008 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He homered
in his first at bat as a Met and I was fooled into thinking that he would be useful.

it would suck
but it wouldn’t surprise me either.
Also, Beltran sucks. Real clutch hitters find a way to not hit their 4th inning screaming line drives right at the first baseman.

Here's my proposal:
Trade him to the Yankees for Melky and cash considerations. Maybe the Melkman can get a hit with 2 outs.

this game sucks
after that inspiring first game come back, i really expected something out of this team. instead they seem to have reverted to being Willie’s wankers. Mediocre pitching, butcherboy fielding and anticlutch hitting. Argenis and Fernando can’t do it by themselves!

i just want to say to all the Heilman apologists
i don’t care if he is a second half pitcher, i tired of him long ago (in st louis playoffs) and won’t shed any tears when he takes his penchant for pivotal suckiness to go be a mediocre starter on some other team. I don’t know if there really are any Heilman lovers, but I just want to vent.

yes they can
they have a stable of vacation guys to fill in for them. It makes sense, their people too, and while they get paid well they don’t have a stable assistants to help them players and they do have lives to attend to. Plus the travel is brutal and they don’t get built in off days like players.

plus baseball is every day
the other sports get days off by virtue of the fact they don’t play every day. An NBA official might work 4 games a week and NFL official works 1 game a week.
