Endy Hitting Second
drives me crazy. Why is it a common practice for MLB managers to hit the worst hitter in the lineup second?
Because
If, for some reason, he happens to get on base, he has good speed.
"People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers Hornsby
Running Fast
doesn’t justify hitting him second. You want to bunch your good hitters together. Additionally, since the second hitter is likely to get one more at bat than someone hitting down in the order, you should give that extra at bat to someone who is likely to do something with it..
Yeah, I know
I was being sarcastic. It really is baffling why Endy and Marlon keep being put there. Why not Tatis or Easley?

My Bad
I realize that my post came across as pedantic.
Not a problem
Sarcasm is untraceable on the Internet.

Phillies
SNY just referred to Uggla as the AL MVP of the All Star game.
Phillies Lose
should have been the title of the previous post.
That is ridiculous
Let’s get the game going, for God’s sake.

I agree.
This is so stupid. Isn’t this why they started the game later anyhow?
To Err Is Human, To Forgive Is A Mets Fan.
Larkin
turned down a trade to the Mets in the middle of the 2000 season
Yep
I’m not sure why that trade does not get more press as a really bad deadline deal.
Phillips made that trade
and Abbot ended up starting the final game of the World Series; I am sure that wasn’t what he envisioned.
He homered
in his first at bat as a Met and I was fooled into thinking that he would be useful.
I remember that
Weren’t we all.

I keep wondering whether he's hurt or not
Apparently Jerry is afraid of him, too.

Schneider sucks
And Beltran makes players throw the ball away with his grit and intangibles.
Vote change: DePodesta/Acta in 2009!!!
preachin' to the choir
I’ve been howling about that for a year and a half. At least Manuel plays Castro more than Randolph did.

Commercial
If I have to watch this commercial about how Jeter has “an edge” one more time, I’m gonna break the fuckin television.
I guess Ford
paid for the spots in advance so their still trying to get people to by a an SUV in $4+ gas.
and that's why
their stock price is in the toilet (GM too).

Giving up on the young pitchers
I wonder if the Phillies would like a do over on dumping Gavin Floyd.
not sold on Floyd
His K/BB rate isn’t that great. He might be getting lucky a la Brian Bannister last year.

Beltran
That won’t end up on Carlos personal highlight reel. He should of caught it and misplayed the bounce. Even the best have low moments.
DUB!!!
Methinks it’s time for him to go on a huge streak.

it would suck
but it wouldn’t surprise me either.
Also, Beltran sucks. Real clutch hitters find a way to not hit their 4th inning screaming line drives right at the first baseman.

take a close look at Fogg
you may be looking at the dumbest looking guy in the big leagues. He also looks like Curt Shilling.
Love to see a staring contest between Fogg and Dunn.

The fifth-inning meltdown has come an inning early.

In the name of all that which does not suck, please get some Ks, Oliver!

Easley catches it and Wally Bell
calls it no catch.
as a consumer of baseball, i am fed up with these bad calls against the Mets. Over and over again.

no Easley
i was expecting Bell to call the runner safe when Easley caught that. Not funny if i have to explain it. Not funny by any measure. Ump rage clouds my judgement

Willie wouldn't have argued that
He would have stood in the dugout with that stoic (re: idiotic) look on his face.

Then Beltran did
We’re paying them a lot of money to stand there watching this game go to hell.

Who's fault is that?
The 2008 NY Mets: Reyes singles. Castillo infield single. Wright walks. Beltran lines out. ZaBlanc bitches. Delgado strikes out. Reyes picked off third. Fans boo. Padres win 2-1.
Here's my proposal:
Trade him to the Yankees for Melky and cash considerations. Maybe the Melkman can get a hit with 2 outs.

I'm not weighing in on your proposal but
i do like “the Melkman” nickname

this game sucks
after that inspiring first game come back, i really expected something out of this team. instead they seem to have reverted to being Willie’s wankers. Mediocre pitching, butcherboy fielding and anticlutch hitting. Argenis and Fernando can’t do it by themselves!
I.M. Forme
Co-signatre
This really bites.

i just want to say to all the Heilman apologists
i don’t care if he is a second half pitcher, i tired of him long ago (in st louis playoffs) and won’t shed any tears when he takes his penchant for pivotal suckiness to go be a mediocre starter on some other team. I don’t know if there really are any Heilman lovers, but I just want to vent.

Pedro 2 was the one that let the cat out of the bag tonight though
five hitters one retired not good.
how can John Hershbeck the umpire
take a vacation…DURING the baseball season?
fuck the heck?

i've just never knew an ump could take a vacation smack dab in the middle of the season
I.M. Forme
by itsmetsforme on Jul 19, 2008 10:29 PM EDT up reply actions
yes they can
they have a stable of vacation guys to fill in for them. It makes sense, their people too, and while they get paid well they don’t have a stable assistants to help them players and they do have lives to attend to. Plus the travel is brutal and they don’t get built in off days like players.
It would make sense for them to take it so it overlaps the All-Star break

but what about the ENTIRE winter?
i’m not anti-labor or anything, i just thought this a bit strange.

plus baseball is every day
the other sports get days off by virtue of the fact they don’t play every day. An NBA official might work 4 games a week and NFL official works 1 game a week.
Well, that was painful
If we get a 2-1 lead early tomorrow, I’ll know we’re doomed.
