I haven't

even swung a bat in about 12 years, but I hereby offer my services as an outfielder/first baseman/emergency pitcher to the Mets, for slightly less than they’re throwing away on Marlon Anderson. Can I be any worse than him?

Where is it? Let’s see it? What?

The 2008 NY Mets: Reyes singles. Castillo infield single. Wright walks. Beltran lines out. ZaBlanc bitches. Delgado strikes out. Reyes picked off third. Fans boo. Padres win 2-1.

And then he steals second, what a selfish play.

Ah, but true to form.

The f’ing guy commits the cardinal sin. Thrown out at third with 1 out. Freaking guy.

by ZaBlanc on Jul 20, 2008 4:06 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

no one out is the time

to take that risk. None out runs you out of an big inning. Two out ends an inning where you can’t score on out an from third. One out gives you benefit of scoring from the third with an out but not shorting a big inning. But don’t let logic stop your Beltran hating.

Feels like the 2008 Mets

Have to agree with some on the board, we’re playing the same way we did the first half the last three games. Men on 2nd, none out, no score, including Beltran cauht stealing at freakin third (he barely goes for second!)

Bad pitching too, the whole series. Maybe we just need to get home after the break to re-center.

The 2008 NY Mets: Reyes singles. Castillo infield single. Wright walks. Beltran lines out. ZaBlanc bitches. Delgado strikes out. Reyes picked off third. Fans boo. Padres win 2-1.

by ZaBlanc on Jul 20, 2008 4:10 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Honestly

I’ll guess you’re doing it just to get a rise out of people (like me), but give the Beltran shtick a rest. The Mets have a lot of problems; Beltran isn’t one of them. Is he everything ZaBlanc wants him to be? No, apparently not. The rest of us can live with that, so please pick a new scapegoat.

by Eric Simon on Jul 20, 2008 4:15 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I think

some people also want Beltran to cure cancer, resolve Darfur, and bring puppies back to life with his swing. Frankly, I’d settle for the guy just not lining out so much.

I was inspired by Eric's comment that Olerud had the best 3-year run as a Met outside Carlos Beltran to look at a few different Mets, and when I noticed that two of my all-time favorite players (Alfonzo and Strawberry) were kinda screwed by having (relatively)bad seasons in between some really good seasons, I decided to see which Mets had the best 3 seasons, period (non-consecutively). Beltran still comes out on top, but my all-time favorite player Alfonzo comes in 2nd place, and him and Straw are the only two to have three 6.0+ WAR seasons. Also interesting that Hundley comes out ahead of Gary Carter, Cleon Jones almost finishes ahead of Mike Piazza, and Joe McEwing doesn't make the list.
