Or 'D'
None of the above, since they’ll all cost way too much in prospects we can’t afford to part with.

You know, Ron,
most guys are on the bench because they DON’T deserve to start. Like Anderson.

did he phillies give up anyone good for blanton?
i hope so, because he won’t be a good pitcher in citizens bank park…especially after playing at the coliseum in oakland
Dammit!
I hate laptops. Keep accidentally hitting ‘back’, and losing the whole post. For the 3rd friggin’ time, from Baseball Cube:
Adrian Cardenas-Only 20, good avg., pretty good discipline, esp. for a 20-yr old. Currently OPS’ing at .822
BB/K ratios
2006: 17/28
2007: 47/80
2008: 28/41
Chris Outman: 23-yr old southpaw. Appears to have switched to the pen this year. Excellent at avoiding the longball (0.46 HR/9 in 414.1 innings-don’t know about the park effects, though). Lots of strikeouts (8.89 K/9 for his career), but has control issues (4.41 BB/9). 1.34 WHIP.
Matt Spencer: 22-yr old OF. 6’4”, 225. Strikes out a lot (201 Ks in 835 ABs, vs. only 76 BBs). Although he may be improving on that (30/66 BB/K in 337 ABs this year. Slugged 1.064 last year at AZ State.
Plus, it seems Phillies fans are not very happy about losing these 3.

Endy vs. Catcher
I agree with you, man. Guys gotta run through the catcher, but Endy? He’s a string bean. He’d actually bounce off the chest protector.

If it meant getting Marlon back on the bench,
maybe even more than “The Dark Knight”. And that’s a whole hell of a lot. Seriously, that movie was soooo awesome.

Agreed
I would love to have Nady back. I was pissed when he was traded in the first place, and I’ve always rooted for him since. He’s one of the most underrated players in MLB.

I’m thinking it might have been Bonds, Kent, and Aurilia in 2000. Or three random Rockies from the mid-90s.

Hello all
couldn’t log on for a long time for some reason. Enjoyable game so far. The Phillies must be pleased they gave up three prospects to get “Met Killer” Joe Blanton.
Nice trade there, Philly.
Per my post above, it looks like Ruben Amaro forgot the first rule of trading with Billy Beane: Don’t trade with Billy Beane. No matter how well the guy you get does for you, you will lose the trade. Guaranteed.

i don't know man...
how many years of contending is worth…not getting it done? yeah, i’d rather have a contender than have the royals or pirates, but it seems like it’s one step forward, one step back. just seems to be treading water.

not to mention
they were in it until he traded Harden and now they are 9.5 out. I agree. Beane’s results have been better on paper than in terms of wins and losses. His best chance was that team that lost on that freaky albeit very overrated Jeter play.
Yeah, but
you can’t get it done without contending. Plus, they know the Angels will always be able to outspend them. The A’s are at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to acquiring veterans, especially in free agency. To even be in the running despite pretty much having one hand tied behind your back, year in and year out, is pretty impressive.

I was once asked
by Fred Williard, of all people, why I rooted for the Mets. I told him, “Because being a Mets fan involves many years of frustration, pain, and suffering, all while other people make fun of you. It prepares you for life”
by BobbyV_Incognito on Jul 22, 2008 10:03 PM EDT reply actions
why on god's green earth
ill ask again… why can’t the mets let their (best) pitcher finish a game??? when your closer is not available???
i'll tell you why
because of this bullcrap 100 pitch count non sense. i don’t know where this crap began but now pitchers are too fragile after pitching 100

iit’s an abomination for the mets, and a confidence building triump for Philadelphia. Now they think they’re a gritty clutch team when it’s really that the Mets suck.

Jerry Manuel
The lovefest/honeymoon is over for this guy. He will be hammered tomorrow and rightly so for his awful moves tonight. Taking out Santana when you don’t have your closer is just mindlessly dumb. and then every move he made in the 9th backfired.
hopefully some spite will be reserved for that
idiot Endy, bonehead Reyes, and almost totally useless bullpen

I have the cell phone numbers of my 3 immediate superiors, including the #2 person in the whole agency. Of course, it’s a government job, so I’d probably only get suspended. But I’d come close.

It’s nice having job security, even though I’m good enough at my job to not have to worry. But man, there’s about 15 people in my agency I would LOVE to fire. And there’s less than 50 full-timers, so that tells you a lot about us.

problem with baseball
pitchers can’t go 9 even when the closer is out and god forbid you should ask thesetup man to get a save with a three run lead. Everybody has their place. It’s not Manual’s fault the team doesn’t want to risk their 9 figure investment getting hurt by throwing the number of pitches that a pitcher 25 years go would take for granted. And throw in Endy and Jose’s brain farts and a stupid third base coach and you have a crushing loss. Well, just gotta get back on the horse tomorrow. We’ll see how much character the Jerry Manual Mets have. PRobably not that much, but I could be surprised.
