Nice start to the game.

Although we should be more concerned about the end. Also, Endy and Marlon are the corner OFs. Again.

by BobbyV_Incognito on Jul 23, 2008 7:36 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

The GEICO Caveman wants Maine to commit to his four-seam fastball

I'm really getting tired of this discussion of the lack of complete games in baseball today

(Directed at Gary and Keith and Ron, not at you guys, that is)

It’s a health thing. Teams believe pitchers are more likely to get hurt if they stay in for another 20-30 pitches, and there’s too much money involved to take that risk. It’s not going to stop just because traditionalists dislike it.

by JoshNY on Jul 23, 2008 7:58 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

dude...

Don’t get all BP/THT/Rob Neyer/Keith Law on us. You are being WAY too rational! (Still, I do think that a star pitcher who has gone over 110 pitches SIX times this season could have gone out to start the ninth….)

Victorino

So he was a state champion in the 100m. Why do announcers and hack sportswriters always bring up how baseball players played other sports in high school and college? Look at Darrin Erstad. Every fawning article ever written about him mention that he punted for Nebraska. Like it somehow made him a better baseball player. Ok, Victorino’s fast, but track and baseball are entirely different animals, and being a champion sprinter doesn’t necessarily transfer to baseball. Remember Herb Washington?

I love these ads that actually portray customers as asswipes

and why would anyone want a communications service that allows you to be constantly hassled by your annoying girlfriend.

Far too annoying

to put up with, no matter how cute she was. And the guy is clearly too whipped to tell her to just let him be for one minute,

Endy up with the bases loaded.

Maybe it’s getting old, but anyone want to bet that he gets thrown out going for the inside the park HR?

well

since he would drive in 3 runs, I’d take it.

I can't believe

that Jerry gave that order. Beltran has been pulling that stunt for eons now.

no

But sometimes Beltran is

by Endys Game on Jul 23, 2008 9:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

why does he think that's good baseball?

18 mil or whatever for a guy who bunts in those kind of situations with no one coming up next. You can see why the Beltran haters get all hatey sometimes.

did I just see...

Beltran sacrifice … AGAIN?!?

by JE on Jul 23, 2008 9:45 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

that's why i call him Buntran

but you can’t deny the RBI power of Robinson Cancel.
Cancel, but can he hit?

by BobbyV_Incognito on Jul 23, 2008 9:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

in order to give RBI opportunities to Cancel and Easley?!?

Was Beltran bunting for a hit or to sacrifice?

Give away your outs, don’t score any runs.

I'm still unimpressed with Maine this season

but i will give him this, he has come through a couple times in must win (for me at least) games. The last game of the Dodgers series in LA comes to mind.

Beltran

So tired of being ahead of my time. Another dud 6th and 8th in big spots with RISP for Carlos Beltran. Carlos for Holliday? Yes, please.

BTW, Steve Phillips after the game: “It’s time Carlos Beltran starts acting like a 17 million dollar a year player.”

Agreed.

The 2008 NY Mets: Reyes singles. Castillo infield single. Wright walks. Beltran lines out. ZaBlanc bitches. Delgado strikes out. Reyes picked off third. Fans boo. Padres win 2-1.

Wow

That’s an airtight argument from authority – Steve Phillips. You’ve seen the way he dresses and does his hair, right? I agree. He has really good judgment.

by Shomov on Jul 23, 2008 11:30 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well

That, and he AGREES WITH ME, not the other way around. I’d like to think you guys sympathize with Beltran just because I’n so hard on him. It’s fair. I can be mean at times. But, game after game, the same behavior keeps coming out. It kills me that the very rare exception keeps you guys looking the other way for weeks on end.

He’s batting 5th now. And bunting. Lovely.

i sympathize with beltran

because he’s a fantastic baseball player, and there’s only one or two other guys i’d be okay with playing CF for us.

by gogomets on Jul 24, 2008 10:42 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

What a joke

You cite anecdotal crap, those who disagree with you cite career performance that contradicts your anecdotal crap, and then you claim WE’RE talking about “the very rare exception”?
