Nice start to the game.
Although we should be more concerned about the end. Also, Endy and Marlon are the corner OFs. Again.

I'm really getting tired of this discussion of the lack of complete games in baseball today
(Directed at Gary and Keith and Ron, not at you guys, that is)
It’s a health thing. Teams believe pitchers are more likely to get hurt if they stay in for another 20-30 pitches, and there’s too much money involved to take that risk. It’s not going to stop just because traditionalists dislike it.

Victorino
So he was a state champion in the 100m. Why do announcers and hack sportswriters always bring up how baseball players played other sports in high school and college? Look at Darrin Erstad. Every fawning article ever written about him mention that he punted for Nebraska. Like it somehow made him a better baseball player. Ok, Victorino’s fast, but track and baseball are entirely different animals, and being a champion sprinter doesn’t necessarily transfer to baseball. Remember Herb Washington?

In fairness,
Little Leaguers aren’t facing a major-league fastball. Also, they’re allowed, even encouraged, to work on their hitting. Pitchers don’t get too much time to practice their bunting, do they?

Beltran
So tired of being ahead of my time. Another dud 6th and 8th in big spots with RISP for Carlos Beltran. Carlos for Holliday? Yes, please.
BTW, Steve Phillips after the game: “It’s time Carlos Beltran starts acting like a 17 million dollar a year player.”
Agreed.
The 2008 NY Mets: Reyes singles. Castillo infield single. Wright walks. Beltran lines out. ZaBlanc bitches. Delgado strikes out. Reyes picked off third. Fans boo. Padres win 2-1.

Well
That, and he AGREES WITH ME, not the other way around. I’d like to think you guys sympathize with Beltran just because I’n so hard on him. It’s fair. I can be mean at times. But, game after game, the same behavior keeps coming out. It kills me that the very rare exception keeps you guys looking the other way for weeks on end.
He’s batting 5th now. And bunting. Lovely.
